Edy Rod: Cool lil park for the lil ones
Franklin Perkins: Simple park but plenty of space for sports and is clean. Also has restrooms.
Bette Hackett: A nice park and usually not crowded. We have had many family picnics there over the years!
Adam Anderson: Great park for the whole family. Bathrooms are a little gross and there's not enough parking, but tons of space to run around, decent playground with good ball fields, tennis and basketball courts.

This park is adjacent to CSULB, has a sports field, playground equipment, basketball courts, roller hockey practice court, picnic tables and athletic fields. The recreation center offers a variety of classes and its social hall can be rented for your reception, reunion or other social event. Call 570-3111 to inquire about a reservation.

Located on the north and south sides of Atherton Street, the park was donated by L.S. Whaley in March 1950 and named for him. The name was changed in December 1954, from Los Altos Recreation Center to Whaley Park. The community building was dedicated in January 1958. The lighted ballfield was home to the 1959 Pony League National Champions.
The park includes a soccer field, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, group picnic area and three playgrounds. The community center and park landscaping renovations occurred in 1992 with funding from the state Park Bond Act of 1988.
In 1993, sports field lighting was replaced and the playgrounds redeveloped with Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992 funds. In 2002, a pre-school aged children's playground was added to the park north of Atherton Avenue with 4th City Council District Council discretionary funds. In 2004, American's with Disabilities Act accessibility improvements were completed with Community Development Bloc Grant funds.
Lloyd Whaley was a developer who sold more than 11,000 new homes in Long Beach during the 1940s and '50s. He is also responsible for donating 11 acres for Scherer Park, 12 acres for Whaley Park and five acres for Los Altos Park.

Marina Ganicheva: I don't know how you should evaluate the local community park, but this one is a rare gem.Unfortunately, the city does a really bad job maintaining Whaley like everywhere else. They removed several trees recently with no replacement, and the grass is delapidating due to excessive cutting. They need to hire people who care and know about plants.
missee doodle: Clean, nice, and quiet park to walk around for a half-mile exercise routine. Occasional soccer teams playing friendly practice games. Friendly people, nice dogs. Surrounded by beautiful trees, although some of them have recently been cut down - possibly due to tree disease. It's still a lovely park. I just love it! ❤️

James DeLuca: Ok so I work a traveling type job atm working graveyard shifts and like to find parks during the day so I can get some sleep before my next shift. I didn't find this park but a buddy of mine did. There's lots of shade, a big baseball diamond in the middle, there's a playground, well enough kept up bathroom's but most of all, it's quiet and has lots of shade!!!!

Brain Bananas: We haven't been here in a while. This is a beautiful park overall. Great for family activities such as parties, fishing, biking, hiking etc. Lots of parking on main loop. The only disappointment was the duck lake grass was full of animal litter... probably duck liter.... Anywhere we walked on the grass there was poop. There is an entrance fee, which I believe was $8. Not much, but shouldn't public park entrances be free?
