4worldlovers: CALIFORNIA HOMEMAKERS ASSOCIATION (CHA) is a grassroots organizing drive committed to ending the poverty conditions facing our membership of domestic workers, in-home care workers, low-income elderly, blind and disabled recipients of in-home care and other low-paid service, temporary, or seasonal workers in Sonoma County.

CHA members joined together in 2000 with concerned residents, students, professionals, clergy and local businesses to create a free and voluntary, unincorporated private membership association, best suited to achieve a permanent solution to the problems of poverty experienced by these workers.

To lessen the burden of day-to-day survival that has traditionally kept low-income workers from organizing to change the policies and practices at the root of their poverty, CHA members established a free-of-charge, 11-Point Benefit Program that includes emergency food, clothing, non-emergency dental care, preventive medical care, legal advice, information and referral assistance, a monthly membership newspaper and more. The Association is 100% volunteer run; it accepts no government funding or any other money with strings attached – rather it exists through the dedication and generosity of its members as well as those allies in the community who have joined our cause. CHA serves no other aim or aspiration outside its stated goal.

Endangered Species Day and 2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In 1973, the bill was passed with almost unanimous bipartisan support to protect species in danger of extinction. Fifty years later, 55 species have recovered—including the bald eagles we regularly see along the Laguna de Santa Rosa! While bald eagles are no longer on the list, 1,678 animal and plant species are listed as threatened or endangered and 23 species have gone extinct. Clearly more work is needed!


Our conservation and restoration work throughout the watershed help in the important work to save rare and endangered species.

Camp Tule is a nature-based cay camp where children ages 6-12 are given space to nurture their creativity and spend time exploring and playing in nature. We are excited to invite campers back for another summer of outdoor adventures and fun!

This year’s fundraising event hosted a small group from our philanthropic community to raise critical funds to support our mission-driven programs. This limited-seating event brought together major donors, new and sustaining, to raise vital funds for our restoration and education efforts. VOICES’ one-of-a-kind Youth Engagement Model has proven that empowering youth to design and lead the programs meant to meet their needs results in better outcomes for older foster youth. In short, peer to peer services delivered by foster youth for foster youth:

Create a more accurate picture of the needs and vulnerabilities of foster youth.

Have higher retention rates, especially among homeless and hard-to-serve youth traditionally disconnected from services.

Remove barriers to a young person’s full participation in existing child welfare, school and community supports by offering trusting relationships and opportunities for youth to define the scope and goals of their service involvement.


Increase the capacity of partner agencies to deliver “youth-friendly” services that reflect youth’s unique needs and respect young people’s preferences for communication and engagement.
