Historical Society of Long Beach (HSLB): what do users think?

Sharon Staley: Ok,my husband liked it, very boring for me.My husband is originally from Long Beach.

Michael Pennington: Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

C Yang: 1st time there... it was a GREAT EXPERIENCE learning bout all these great Women come to be & timelines how Long Beach became LONG BEACH. It was a SPECIAL for empowering WOMEN.

William Shibley: I enjoyed looking around at the historical society. Unfortunately there was limited staffing present. And, unfortunately, I probably know more about Long Beach history than most of those people.

CarmInAce {G. Negrete} Nuñez: Such a great place to get a quick Fix of historical information.

Simon Lau: Stopped by here friday evening during the First Friday Bixby Knolls event. Great place to visit and the staff here was very knowledgeable and excited to share their knowledge. Current exhibit on water in Long Beach provided context on the changing landscape and evolving facilities to suit the needs of the community from early settlers, to the war efforts to present day. Lots of historical pictures capturing the changes.

Ian Beavis: It is a treasure trove of historical information. It makes you proud to be part of Long Beach.

Jennifer Booker: Super cool lil local museum. Definitely go and get on the email list. Freeeeeeee

Mikey Davis: Water Changes Everything exhibit just opened. Information on our waterways yesterday and today. I learned how much our shoreline has changed and why we did what we did.

Sami Well: Cool

Birgit De La Torre: Very interesting exhibits, changing frequently.

Linette Tang: Absolutely loved this house museum and the surrounding grounds! We went on a Sunday afternoon and saw just a few other visitors. There is quite a bit of shade but do bring some water with you on a hot day. There is a large free parking lot outside the grounds. The adobe building is so charming and well maintained, and there are numerous rooms open for exhibit, with objects out to touch as well. We did a self-guided tour and walked around with the map, using the QR codes for more information, and that process was easy and informative. It's clear that the staff who put together the tour and signage recognize the importance of the site and are dedicated to sharing a holistic history of the building and the people that called it home. Also the native garden and seeing so many of our local plants in bloom was a highlight of the grounds for me!

Sharon Staley: Nice grounds but was not open and beautiful wild plants.Visited on Weekday Reservation recommended Not sure …

Helen Arens: Beautiful old historic rancho dating back to the mid-1800s, with free guided docent tours as well as self-guided tours. Entrance and parking are free. There are donation boxes, but that is optional. The surrounding lovely grounds make for a relaxing walk. It's tucked away behind a golf course in Long Beach and most people don't even know it's there. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our docent guide, John, was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with. It was a great way to spend a nice afternoon.

Angela M: Beautiful day for a self-tour of the grounds, exhibits and very interesting history from amiable docents who just love THE place and ITS place in LB Rancho history. And now, so do I.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No Free entry Yes …

Mrs FlorLopez: Really interesting... I loved it!

Kevin Shin: Have lived in LA most of my life and this was the first time visiting. What a great place to explore. They have lots of cool models of ships and a whole section just for kids to play and explore. The location on the LA Waterfront with views of the USA Iowa and the port complex really help tie the exhibits to our current reality. Definitely an awesome place to take kids and a great place for adults to check out too.

Henriette H Rieffel: . the museum is absolutely a must see because of the historical records and interesting artefacts, both for the social coastlines and for the ports.

Braedyn Beal: Splendid museum encompassing a wealth of knowledge surrounding marine life, history of the port, and pure craftsmanship and mastery of ships/boats. Admissions is FREE but donations are appreciated. While there, we met and spoke with Scotty, the volunteer pictured in the marine radio command center photo. She provided us an in-depth explanation and demonstration of live marine radio traffic which was astounding!Overall, the museum and surrounding port areas were neatly kept, filled with things to see, and activities to partake in. Worth the trip!
