Lakewood Budo Kai: what do users think?

Nix Roast: .Surprisingly, the fees and organizational structure of this school haven't changed in the more than ten years since I first inquired about it.I have prior Karate experience and can distinguish between top-notch and questionable schools based on their lineage and training protocol, and Lakewood Budo Kai is unquestionably a top-notch school. This is not a belt factory, and they are genuinely interested in teaching the arts in their purest form, rather than for financial gain.Russell sensei is the current head instructor, and when I spoke with him recently, he was very nice and knowledgeable about the classes.I've spoken with other Karate schools that charge three times as much for half as many lessons and hours, which made me reconsider attending and lead me to consider other options.Lakewood Budo Kai is a rare find if you live near Long Beach and are looking for reputable martial arts instruction.I strongly advise you to contact them.

Christian Birmingham: Wonderful experience for my son with special needs participating in the adult Jujitsu class. Instructors display great patience and skill while enforcing discipline and respecting tradition. Feels like a family hierarchy after a while. I highly recommend.

ALL TECH Cellphone repair: Very safe and friendly environment as well with the instructors, very easy to learn and andy when it comes to a self defense situations.I had a few bad situations and I was able to control it due to the knowledge that I acquired in this class.highly recommended.

Brandon Bryant: This is a fantastic place to learn the basics of self defense. There is no ego, no flash, no pressure to pay for extras, just the work. The instructors are patient and accomplished. If you're looking for Cobra Kai MMA type stuff, this isn't it. Everyone is respectful of each other but we still have a good time in class. When you factor in how affordable it is, this is a real Long Beach jewel.

Altius IT: Good martial arts instructors. Over 35 years in Long Beach.

Kevin C: Great place to learn traditional jujitsu and karate.

The Jiu-Jitsu League: what do users think?

Garrett Bolton: Super friendly and welcoming environment. Dropped in for a 6am while my team was in LB for worlds. Got a great warm up, instructional session and plenty of live rolls. My teammates came back and dropped into an open mat and everyone welcomed them with open arms, even offering pointers after the rolls to my teammates competing at worlds that week. Overall great spot, would definitely come back the next time I’m in the Long Beach area! Ossa

Kirk Breneman: Great place and nice people

Movement Art: Super friendly and positive environment!

Billy Sam: I came here in 2013/2014 for worlds prep. Now I return with my own students. Still the same welcoming atmosphere as it was all those years ago!

William B: Great place to train, come here every year for worlds training prep

leeturnbull82: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueBest gym in the Long Beach area! Family friendly and a wonderful community feel. Happy to call this gym my home!

erikthejeweler: I started training with Jiu Jitsu League a few months ago. A friend referred me here. I couldn’t be happier training with this family run business. Professor Kevin and Hayley are fantastic coach’s. There is a great vibe at the Jiu Jitsu League. It shows with the class and skill set of the practitioners who train here. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first class or you are a seasonal grappler there is something here for everyone.

Bridger Jancic: I called to ask about training here while visiting from Out of town. The owners responded very quickly and were helpful in getting me current schedule details. So I Dropped in for a no-gi a.m. class. I’m a novice who has only been training a few months. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and trained safely. Gym was super clean and all county covid health mandates were followed. I will definitely be back when I’m in the area. Great atmosphere and training partner.

the c: Great people. Great Gym

Noah Withington: It has been nearly five years now and they have been so supportive through my challenges with crippling disabilities! I’m so grateful to have a shot at recovering and not only training but also teaching and giving back to such a great group of people! My jujitsu training partners were the ones that stepped up to help me as I have started to recover. I can’t believe my good fortune and I am so grateful that I decided to go out that night and just show up at the nearest legitimate Jiujitsu school. There’s a lot of shiny gold in California but I was unbelievably fortunate to find such amazing people catch a train and care for me as if I’m family! I remember the first time I took a private lesson with Professor Kevin Howell and afterward he invited me to lunch and mentioned how much he valued the Jiujitsu lifestyle and socialization on and off the mats. We build such deep bonds that it’s hard for outsiders to understand. Every spring all the competitors from around the world come to train with us as the spend their time with their teams competing in the IBJJF world championships and other local competitions held in Long Beach and southern California. I have been unbelievably fortunate to get to train and grapple with some of the top competitors in the world because of my values reflected in my dedication to training and my membership with The Jiu-Jitsu League.I’ve been training at the Jui-Jitsu League for over 3 years and I love it. We have such a great group of people! The instruction is great and there are lots of high-level guys that always are willing to meet you at your level and train to make you both better. It has been a lot of fun training and making some great friends.

Michael Kies: Great place to drop in! Friendly attitudes, nice mats, super clean, and convenient. Highly recommended!

Paul McEvatt: What a place this is. We went to Long Beach from the UK for the kids Pan Ams and all being from different gyms, we tried to find a place that was neutral. What we found was much more than we were hoping for. Kevin and Hayley opened their arms up to us, allowed the kids a little area of the mat to train all week, ithe coaches included them in the adults warm ups, invited them to the kids classes and even picked them out to flow roll with. Everyone and I mean everyone at the gym was so welcoming and there were no issues whatsoever about gym affiliations or politics. Highly recommend finding this place to go and train if you're in the Long Beach area, wonderful people and wonderful clean gym. To top it off, the kids won the Pan Ams too and that was helped massively through being able to get training in each day.

Andrew Franco: Great people , great energy this is my second year coming to Cali and I only come here to train

Meggie Ochoa: Jiujitsu league is a beautiful gym with excellent service and wonderful people. They've got top-notch jiujitsu techniques with a family-like atmosphere. I would definitely recommend that you go if you are in the long beach area.

Orange County Judo Training Center: what do users think?

Justin Brandon: THE BEST JUDO CLUB IN THE OC.

Oliver Hernandez: Let me begin with, that I lost more weight in two weeks than what could my on my own in two months. Sensei Juan Montenegro is known throughout the Judo community not only for being one of the best, but also for being one of the oldest in the game as well. He creates a learning environment where everyone not only welcomes you but also helps you grow your judo game. Sensei Juan himself will train among you. I was shocked by how much support there was from this school as a new arrival. The adult classes are phenomenal, there's always someone there to help you, you won't go a single class without a partner. Best decision I've made post pandemic. I can see myself here for a very long time

Konstantin Chigrin: Best place for Judo in Orange County. Anyone can come here. It’s for kids, adults or anyone willing to learn. Great energy and atmosphere.

Sarah Baxter: Amazing sensei and great little kid class

Andrew Sy: Sensei Juan creates a fun learning environment. As an adult practioner it is nice to go to a place where competition is encouraged but not the sole purpose of practice. If competition is your speed, there are more than enough skilled judokas should you want to have a more intense experience.

Andrew Baker: OC Judo with Sensei Juan is amazing!!! It's like a friendly fun family atmosphere comitted to personal growth and development, never any judgment or any negativity at all. I am thankful that I found this dojo and that I am able to train here as much as I can. Thank you Sensei Juan!!

Kevin Randall: This is an amazing experience for the kids. This place is wonderful. The Sensais are some of the most patient, and kind people I have ever met. The students learn incredibly fast here, and the praise and reinforcement has no equal. My daughter attends here and loves it. The students encourage each other a lot. Give it a try, I think you will like it.

Harout Demirjian: I've trained a lot of places both judo and bjj, I happened to find OC Judo while I was stationed in Camp Pendleton, so not wanting to drive to my own club in LA every time I had off, I googled judo schools near me and I went in and absolutely enjoyed every minute I spent there trained, Sensei Juan is very technical and will break down every technique so you can understand. Very nice and easy going environment with a good competitive side that I enjoyed. I used to drive 1 hour and 30min in dead stop traffic to make it to class that's how much I enjoyed it.

Chris Fanego: OC JUDO is, by far, the best judo training center! Safe, fun, clean, challenging and friendly environment. Great for all ages. Sensei Juan Montenegro is a master among masters.

Quy Dinh (QPilot): As soon I set my foot on the mat for the first time.. I feel like "This is it and I am gona stay with it!"This place is neat, nice teacher, affordable price, and the commitment of the teacher in teaching the student. WELL DONE! And keep it up!Highly recommended Judo Dojo in Orange County.-Quy Dinh

christyreneezam: This place is wonderful! The staff here is amazing! Sensei Juan Montenegro was my coach for years and has helped me accomplish many goals! He truly cares for his students and will do anything to help them achieve their goal!

Delainey Jorgensen: Juan is the best. my kids love the program and coaching. Couldn't be happier.

Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studios: what do users think?

Sean Evans: My son just started his lessons here. The instructors are very good with children, and I have been impressed with all he is learning.

kathy dumalski: My son, Helmut, started his karate journey with Z-ultimate 2 years ago as a 5-yo. The instructors are really great! Sensai Karla, S. Daniel, S. LaDarius, S. Troy - they are so personable with the kids. Helmut is now a blue belt. Last year he took home a 4th place trophy for his kata at the regional tournament. Helmut is looking forward to his next belt test and hopes to become a black belt in High School and maybe even instruct. The school offers online learning as well, and the group classes help re-enforce the skills learned in private lessons. Even during the pandemic they’ve made every effort to offer the same great teaching virtually, or outdoors when the air quality is good. More than karate is developed here. Respect and listening is a big part of the teachings as well. I highly recommend this dojo.

Miguel A. Baeza: Excellent facilities, flexible schedule and great mentors, Z Ultimate is fantastic

Katrin B: Signed my son up for lessons and loved it so much that I signed up myself.

GiGi Milan: I must say, that I searched many studios for about one year with many disappointments, because I was searching for a Dojo. When I walked in I could feel the "peace" at Z ultimate. I love the respect that is taught there and the relationships that built there. Z Ultimate is not just a place to learn self defense, or to learn how much you can dish out to someone... it is a place where you can find who YOU really are, and improve yourself from there. I brought my daughter, shy, and fearful, and unsure of herself... and Z Ultimate Sensei's welcomed her with open arms..... and boy did it make a difference in how she felt about herself, and others. I more then appreciate them, my respect is great for them, and they are sorely missed... because I have moved to another area and am on the search once again... but my Sensei's at Long Beach Z Ultimate are top of the line in patience and in spirit every one of them.... Thank you all deeply for the care you have shown, friendship, and wonderful head start you gave my little girl Giada.Sincerely, Stacy Collins

Jeremiah Barber: that you want to accomplish!!! Can't say enough about this dojo!! AWESOME!!

Tammy Henderson: What more can I say this dojo has been my daughters saving grace. My daughter has been a victim of bullying and me figgy and the whole power of one staff have become extended members of our family. Mr figgy especially has gone above and beyond for our daughter ñ. He is always there for us. Has been a mentor for our daughter and brings a certain light and energy to power of one that we can honestly say is what makes our daughters experience one of a kind. This dojo not only has built our daughters confidence but shown her discipline and been the motivation that we could not do for her. Ty so very much mister figgy and power of one for being part of our daughters journey and helping her become the amazing little lady she is becoming

The Grappling Lab: what do users think?

Isaiah Tesfay: Coach Edwin is my first jiu jitsu coach and I could not have asked for a better one! He is super chill and very kind but when it’s time for jiu jitsu he’s completely locked in which I really appreciate as a coach. He teaches jiu jitsu in a way that makes sense and isn’t confusing. I only go to jiu jitsu about twice a week and I feel like I’m learning a lot and gaining much knowledge under coach Edwin. 10/10.

Tony: I first met Edwin while taking his group BJJ classes at a local gym. I ended up transferring to a gym closer to my house for a little while but then sought Edwin out again for 1on1 lessons about a year later because I wanted his help preparing for my first competition. There’s no getting around it. Edwin knows Jiu Jitsu. Sometimes the difference between okay technique and amazing technique is just a tiny adjustment. Edwin knows what these adjustments are. Every time I would attempt a technique, he would provide some small tweaks to optimize it. I was and am still impressed at how much he knows about the sheer mechanics of grappling. He puts a lot of emphasis on grips, hand fighting, head control. These seemingly small details that have made a huge difference in my rolls. I feel like I make a couple months worth of progress every time we meet for an hour. He’s also gotten me thinking a lot about strategy – what techniques are optimal for a person with my body type? What techniques will be optimal against my opponent’s particular body type? Hanging out with him is like drinking from the fountain of knowledge. Highly recommend.

Enrique Daniel: Coach Edwin is a great bjj coach, he has a way of teaching that makes it very easy to understand the complex movements of jiu-jitsu, he not only teaches a technique but also teaches why each technique works and flows into another. He is very patient and takes the time to go over things if students don’t understand something and is always ready to answer any questions students might have. I couldn’t recommend his classes more!

Brian Tran: , but he took it easy on me and gave me useful advice that has been a game changer- Go to The Grappling Lab and train with EdwinEdwin is an outstanding practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, holding an impressive black belt and showcasing remarkable skill in the martial art. What sets him apart is his comprehensive understanding of the human body, thanks to his master's degree in exercise science from a top-tier university and program. This knowledge extends beyond manipulation techniques, as Edwin has a profound grasp of how the body functions. Additionally, he is a certified strength and conditioning coach, further enhancing his ability to optimize performance. My introduction to Edwin came through his website and his exceptional conditioning programs. I must admit, these programs are not for the faint of heart. They are highly effective, pushing me to my limits while producing tangible results. What impressed me the most was Edwin's generosity in providing a wealth of information for free, underscoring his genuine commitment to the growth and success of his clients.Having the privilege of rolling with Edwin was a truly memorable experience. Despite his superior abilities

Julian Nguyen: Been working with Edwin from the start of my BJJ journey and it’s been a great experience. It’s been 8 months and Edwin’s knowledge is on a different level. It helps that he has a masters in motor control, so his class is structured to really help you learn and ingrain the movements. He pays attention to details from the warm up, drill time, to the physics of why one technique works better than another. Highly recommend for all levels, but especially for beginners looking for fundamentals.

Luis Gonzalez: Small class but legit Black Belt. Classes will feel like a private class sometimes. LEGIT JIU JITSU BLACK BELT. Jiu Jitsu class starts at 7 sharp

Nicholas Guzzardi: Best coach I've come across!! Coach Edwin has a comprehensive approach to teaching jiu jitsu. I've been to a couple other establishments and its not even close. If you are a beginner or expert, coach Edwin will not disappoint. His prices are extremely low for the knowledge and experience that he shares. Ive only been training with him for a month now and can't wait to see where I'm at in a year.Don't waste your time with other facilities and sign up now.

alex Dominguez: Edwin really runs a great a good training spot here. Some other gyms in the area have more students or more well known name, but I think the overall training and attention you get by having a smaller school is a great value. Edwin is really accommodating if you have any questions and is a legit black belt. He does a good job of focusing on actually developing knowledge of the movements needed for jiu jitsu without over explaining. It's especially easier training here if you're new at bjj because it's not as much dog eat dog mentality like some other places. I highly recommend training here.

Kat: I've been practicing BJJ for a couple of years on and off, so I've tried other BJJ gyms in and around Long Beach. Edwin is by far the best teacher I've come across! I've learned much more in the short time at the grappling lab than at any other gym. As a smaller woman it's easy for me to feel intimidated, but never felt that training here. So, if you've ever wanted to try bjj but felt intimidated, dont be! Stop by the grappling lab and give it a try! It's still a small school but I look forward to seeing it grow.
