4worldlovers: Judo was developed by Professor Jigoro Kano from a martial art called Jujitsu. Judo's goals can be best expressed in Professor Kano's words:

"The aim of judo is to utilize physical and mental strength most effectively. Its training is to understand the true meaning of life through the mental and physical training of attack and defense. You must develop yourself as a person and become a useful citizen to society."

The phrase sei ryoku zen yo expresses the essence of judo's approach. 'Seiryoku' refers to mental and physical forces and 'zenyo' means to put to good use. Together sei ryoku zen yo means to use one's own mental and physical forces to accomplish worthwhile goals most efficiently.

By learning and mastering the judo's essence from experience, we can always maintain composure, make decisions clearly, and foster self-esteem throughout our living in this complex society.

Palo Alto Judo Club students have the opportunity to participate in regional and national judo tournaments and other events. Our club has a history of developing national champions.

4worldlovers: The Academy offers a complete Judo program that follows the tradition of Japanese Judo. The program includes daily classes, technical sessions, and strength and conditioning exercises, which help students to strengthen both their mind and body.

Improve mental strength, manner, respect, discipline, fairness, patience, modesty, courage and power of concentration at daily classes.

Learning new techniques, weed out bad habits, or observe pure and effective Japanese Judo at daily classes and technical classes.

Develop physical strength and motor skills. Improve balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance at daily classes and conditioning & strength classes.

Judo is an international sport that originated in Japan and is an official Olympic event. It is unique among martial arts in that it focuses on throwing techniques from a standing position and submission techniques from the ground. At the Nakano Judo Academy, we offer programs for individuals who want to get in shape, become mentally strong, and live a stress-free life through martial arts training. Our academy offers a reputable staff with years of experience in elite-level competition and coaching in Judo. We have classes for kids, juniors, and adults available five days a week, as well as special programs for beginners who are new to Judo, so beginners are more than encouraged and welcome! Our programs include daily classes, summer camp, clinics throughout the year, and our annual Japan Judo Tour Camp.​

Additionally, we offer no-gi lessons once a month so that students can learn Judo mechanics and self-defense techniques without a traditional Judo uniform.

Classes are scheduled daily. Nakano Academy students are encouraged to participate in as many classes as they like.

Private lessons provide students with opportunities to refine their skills or accelerate their training and development.

We offer summer camp, and clinics that offer focused training and technical instruction to prepare students for competition.

Participants will learn about Judo history in Hawaii on a fully guided tour and establish a judo athletic exchange program

Students are taught not only judo but how to be a successful, respectful and responsible person.

Students are encouraged to compete in tournaments to master their judo skills, to learn to overcome their fears and to become successful. Our club and sensei will provide the training, coaching and support to all students.

We have been serving and teaching our community since 1988. Our instructors, parents and students work closely together, with respect and kindness, to reach a Black Belt level in martial arts and in life. Teri Lee is without a doubt a leader in the martial arts for both women and men. Not only is she a great instructor who has turned out some of the best black belts around, she also is a great leader of instructors. This giving her a top team to work with her students. An accomplishment that many school owners have a challenge with.

My son has been practicing martial arts at the academy for about 10 years. It's been a great joint journey for him and for me as a parent. I have attended Sunnyvale Martial Arts Academy for 7 years as a mature adult. I started at another school and moved here because of the large number of adults that attend. I have now achieved my 3rd degree black belt to which I give credit to the truly excellent instructors, the support of my fellow students and the general welcoming environment of the school.
