4worldlovers: We would like to invite you to the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at the Tathāgata Meditation Center on Sunday November 5, 2023.
As you know, Kathina is a tradition which has been followed since the time of the Buddha. Every year, Tathāgata Meditation Center (TMC) organizes the ceremony right after the Vassa period for devotees to have an opportunity to offer four requisites to the Sangha and accumulate merits for themselves. The merits of the four-requisite offering were mentioned by the Buddha in the Anapanasatti Sutta as follows:
" O Bhikkhu! The Sangha here is a pure assembly. It is worth for devotees to come a long way to pay respect and make donation. For this assembly, a small donation will get a lot of merits and a large donation even gets more merits in return. The Sangha Assembly is indeed a field for all devotees to seed their good karma and cultivate their merits."
THE INTENTION BEHIND the present book is to help students of Early Buddhism learn to read the texts of the Pāli Canon in the ancient Indian language in which they have been preserved, the language known as Pāli. The book is based on a weekly course in Pāli that I have been conducting over the past several years at Chuang Yen Monastery in upstate New York. The course is meant for students who have completed the earlier courses I gave on the basics of Pāli grammar and the reading of the Buddha’s discourses in Pāli, the former based on Lily de Silva’s Pāli Primer, the latter on James Gair and W. S. Karunatillake’s A New Course in Reading Pāli. In the subsequent weekly course that I developed we read and analyzed suttas from the major chapters of the Saṃyutta Nikāya. In each class I took a sutta (or portion of a longer sutta), explained the meaning of each word and the grammatical forms involved, and then gave a literal translation of each sentence, followed by a more natural English rendering.
One day, King Pasenadi of Kosala went to the Jetavana monastery after having his full morning meal. It was said that the king had eaten one quarter basket (about half a bushel) of rice with meat curry on that day; so while listening to the Buddha's discourse he felt very sleepy and was nodding most of the time.
Note: Yogi's are welcome to come on Sunday morning before 8:00am, to practice and to participate in the remembrance ceremony in the afternoon without having to register.

(Story told by Bhikkhu U Tarakaraja and translated by U Hla Myint) This is the last handwriting of Sayadawgyi who had only days to live. While I was standing by his bedside in the private hospital named Asia Royal, he asked me to give him a piece of paper. So, I passed him a sheet. Then, he said, “Give me a small piece; I don’t need the whole sheet; don’t waste recourses.” So, I gave him a small piece, the one in the picture. He often disciplined us to use things without wasting. He started writing a poem in flawless Pali showing his powerful memory and dynamic mind.
Anantādīnavo kāyo; visa-rukkha-samūpamo Āvāso sabba-rogānaṁ; puñco dukkhassa kevalo.
