4worldlovers: The Italian Cultural Center of San Diego is a non-profit organization, founded in 1981, in the heart of Little Italy, as a meeting point for people interested in Italian culture and language.


Over the years the center has grown steadily and currently consists of more than 600 members, a mixed group of Italian Americans, Italophiles, and Italians of various origins and ages.


Our mission is to offer the richest Italian experience in San Diego.


Our primary goal is to promote the diffusion of Italian culture in all its varied forms. In order to achieve this goal, we have always emphasized the importance of teaching the Italian language as a way to guarantee access to a wider cultural context. The ICC now offers a variety of classes at all levels for adults, year-round. Our classes are taught by native speakers who have been part of the Italian language-teaching scene for several years.

4worldlovers:
Young kids easily pickup new languages, Italian in particular connects them to art, history, literature and cuisine. They can continue studying Italian for school credit either through the Advanced Placement program or in College. Adults instead can enjoy talking with locals when traveling to Italy, watch Italian movies and read Italian classic literature.


Classes are 2 hours per week in the afternoon from the beginning of September to the end of May, they are organized in 2 tracks:

Italian as a Foreign Language (IFL) classes are grouped by age and level. They are focused on learning the basics of the Italian language from scratch. Once the basics are covered, the students are also introduced to Italian lifestyle and culture.

Italian Heritage classes (ITA) are targeted at students already fluent in Italian, they focus on teaching topics as taught in Elementary and Middle schools in Italy like history, geography, culture and lifestyle.

Our instructors are all mother-tongue Italian, they are experienced and passionate about teaching kids their own language and culture.

The reality is that you cannot learn to SPEAK a language if you don’t practice speaking it with other human beings.

We teach you how to speak Spanish (or English for Spanish speakers) by speaking it, not by reading about it and learning rules. We take an organic, hands-on approach, which is how we all learned our native language. We practice speaking Spanish (or English) through real conversation. We talk about our day to day lives, we play games and we discuss random, thought-provoking topics.

The classes are fun, laid back, non-intimidating and filled with joy & laughter!
