The public is welcome to enjoy the beach and bay access. Campland on the Bay is leased from the City of San Diego and is located on leased tidelands. Thirty-one complimentary public parking spaces including four EV chargers (not to be used for overnight storage) are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is fun to get out on the water and explore the nation's largest aquatic park. Campland's Marina offers pontoon boat, kayak, and pedal boat rentals. Adventure Water Sports offers water ski boats, waverunners and stand up paddle boards. You can also bring your own boat, use the launch ramp, and reserve a guest slip.

Set below Spooner’s Mesa – roughly a mile south of the Tijuana River and east of the Pacific Ocean – this unique 79-acre campground offers breathtaking views of the valley, with connections to over 20 miles of trails enjoyed by hikers, bikers and equestrians. It contains a nature education center, 51 primitive campsites and is also the first County campground to offer yurts – covered camping spaces with doors, windows, bed frames and room for six to 10 people. It also features an amphitheater, nature play and a volunteer pad for 24-hour maintenance and support. This campground is the latest addition to an already robust 1,800-acre park property – which features 22 and a half miles of trails, a bird and butterfly garden, a 200-plot community garden and five ballfields.

The Kumeyaay Lake Campground is open for Friday and Saturday night camping. The 46 campsites are available for reservation on a first-come, first-serve basis and the cost is $22.78 per night. All cancellations must be made 14 days in advance.


We can no longer accept cash for any reservations or fees. Reservations and fees must be paid for with either credit, debit, or gift cards.

How to Book a Campsite at Kumeyaay Campground Step by step instructions.

The Kumeyaay Lake Campground is open for day use Monday through Thursday.

Hikers and cyclists are welcome to walk into the Campground to utilize the picnic tables Monday through Thursday.

The East Comfort Station is open to the public every day.

Campers may only have open fires in the fire rings located at each campground.

Existing BBQ grills in the day-use park lot and at the adjacent amphitheater may be used.

From Interstate 8 - Take 8 to the Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue exit. Turn north onto Mission Gorge Road, then east at the Friars Road junction, to stay on Mission Gorge Road. Proceed east on Mission Gorge Road for 6.5 miles, passing both Father Junipero Serra Trail and Golfcrest Drive. Continue east and turn left onto Father Junipero. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile at the stop sign on the right.

From Highway 52 - Take the Mast Blvd. exit. Driving from the west, turn left onto Mast Blvd., go under the freeway to the second traffic signal at West Hills Parkway, and turn right. Driving from the east, turn right onto Mast Blvd. and turn right at the first traffic signal onto West Hills Parkway. Continue 2/3 mile to Mission Gorge Rd. and turn right. Proceed down Mission Gorge Road for two-tenths of a mile, then merge right onto Father Junipero Serra Trail. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile down the road on the right, at the stop sign.
