The Kumeyaay Lake Campground is open for day use Monday through Thursday.

Hikers and cyclists are welcome to walk into the Campground to utilize the picnic tables Monday through Thursday.

The East Comfort Station is open to the public every day.

Campers may only have open fires in the fire rings located at each campground.

Existing BBQ grills in the day-use park lot and at the adjacent amphitheater may be used.

From Interstate 8 - Take 8 to the Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue exit. Turn north onto Mission Gorge Road, then east at the Friars Road junction, to stay on Mission Gorge Road. Proceed east on Mission Gorge Road for 6.5 miles, passing both Father Junipero Serra Trail and Golfcrest Drive. Continue east and turn left onto Father Junipero. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile at the stop sign on the right.

From Highway 52 - Take the Mast Blvd. exit. Driving from the west, turn left onto Mast Blvd., go under the freeway to the second traffic signal at West Hills Parkway, and turn right. Driving from the east, turn right onto Mast Blvd. and turn right at the first traffic signal onto West Hills Parkway. Continue 2/3 mile to Mission Gorge Rd. and turn right. Proceed down Mission Gorge Road for two-tenths of a mile, then merge right onto Father Junipero Serra Trail. The entrance to the campground is located two-tenths of a mile down the road on the right, at the stop sign.

Visitors to this 500-acre regional park have quite a palette of activities to choose from. Modern campsites sit at the top of the summit, along with a seasonal splash pad, play areas, a 13-station exercise course, rentable picnic areas, a community room, an outdoor amphitheater and fishing at Sweetwater Reservoir.

Hikers, cyclists and equestrians will enjoy 15 miles of trails that meander up and down the hill, through open grasslands and along streamside vegetation boasting spectacular views of the reservoir and this unique urban oasis.

Camper, trailer, and tent camping are all options among 112 sites – many with access to both water and power. Coin-operated showers are available for all campers.

One of the major attractions at the park is the 60-foot pavilion. This covered structure and its kitchen facilities are especially suited for group campers. You’ll also find four 16-foot picnic pavilions, a Campground Amphitheater, a 2,000-square-foot Community Room, and a 13-Station Exercise Course.

An adjacent local park features a lawn area, tot lot, splash park and shaded picnic tables with panoramic views of the countryside.

Trail Notice: We recently completed work on the Sweetwater Loop and River Trail, thanks to a collaborative effort between the County of San Diego, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Sweetwater Authority. This portion of the trail (approximately 1.3 miles) was rerouted to protect sensitive habitats while maintaining access and recreation opportunities. No running is allowed on the splash pad or in the playground area.

All children not potty-trained MUST wear swim diapers or plastic diaper covers when in splash pad.

No alcohol, glass, smoking, rubber chips, sand, skateboarding, scooters, bikes, or throwing debris in the splash pad.

Street shoes are prohibited in the Splash Park. Sandals, flip-flops, or appropriate deck wear is recommended.

NOTE: This playground is closed for maintenance the first Wednesday of every month.

4worldlovers: Notice of Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program: The ocean shoreline and bay at Silver Strand State Beach will be intermittently closed to public water contact when there is a threat to public health. For more information and updates on current conditions including closures, please visit San Diego County Beach and Bay Water Quality Program at http://www.sdbeachinfo.com/ before visiting the park.

Camping reservations can only be made through Reserve California at reservecalifornia.com or by calling 1-800-444-7275. Reservations can be made as soon as the same day or up to 6 months in advance, based on availability. Silver Strand State Beach Campground requires a self-contained camping unit and offers only hook-up sites. In order to obtain the most accurate information on available camp sites, be sure to select hook-up as the site type on the Reserve California web site.

Camping is available for self-contained recreational vehicles, motorhomes, or trailers only, per Coastal Commission regulations. Minimum requirements: a running water system and flushable toilet with holding tank. Vehicles not meeting the minimum requirements will be turned away.

Day Use Lot #3 is now available for campground extra vehicle parking. Have more space in your site! Special Rules and Pricing apply. Rate is $20 per night. Contact the park for detailed information.

Campground Check In Time is 2:00 pm, no exceptions. if you arrive early, parking may be available in the day use area for a fee.

Park gates close nightly at seasonally posted hours. When gates are locked, there is no vehicle access into or out of the park.

It is always a good idea to call ahead regarding operating hours, fees, and conditions, which can change.

Day use fees are $12 - $20 (demand based pricing). A valid California Explorer Vehicle Day Use Annual Pass or California State Park Adventure Pass can be used for day use as well.

If there is no staff person in the kiosk at the park entrance, day use fees must be paid at the Automated Pay Machine.

In the high-demand units of southern California we must charge fees according to the space you occupy. If your recreational vehicle occupies two spaces, we offer an Oversized Vehicle rate. This fee is designed to recover revenue lost when an oversized vehicle uses more than one space that could have been filled by an additional paying vehicle. If the vehicle’s traveling length and width extend beyond two spaces, additional fees may be paid to cover the number of spaces occupied by the vehicle. Additional fees cannot be purchased to accommodate a vehicle’s extended size, or additional equipment or occupancy. Fees may only be used to cover the traveling size. Extending a shade canopy or additional equipment into adjoining spaces beyond traveling size is not permitted.

Please conserve water when visiting the park; excess water usage affects future water supplies and increases costs to State Parks.

The beach is located 4.5 miles south of the city of Coronado on Highway 75. The park is located on the sand-spit that forms the outer edge of San Diego Bay between Coronado and Imperial Beach. The park has 2 ½ miles of ocean beach and ½ mile on the bay. The entrance to the park is from Highway 75, which serves as a divider between the ocean side of the park and the bay side.

Silver Strand State Beach features extensive beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Combined with the area’s mild climate, the beaches make Silver Strand one of the area’s finest recreation destinations. Camping, swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing, volleyball, and picnicking are popular activities. Anglers can fish for perch, corbina, grunion and yellow-fin croaker.
