Our first open house since 2019. Weather! The best weather in the last 4 months! We had an EXCELLENT turn out from members and a good number of the public. Gogian flew his turbine helicopter. Several giant scale 3D pilots flew. Lots of sport glow and electric planes. Rancho On-Site Tacos provided an excellent variety of tacos and salsa. Cliff and Kent flew trainer flights. CAP cadets were there all day absorbing our aeronautic knowledge. Cliff had the computer sim going. At least 2 new members signed up.

Thank you to everyone that attended! Not only good for the public but gets our enthusiasm level back up also.

The recognition means that AMA will be able to apply for FRIA status for Club flying sites. In the future, all UAS will be requires to carry a transponder system (yet to be developed), unless flying at a FRIA (FAA-Recognized Identification Area).Our club applied for FRIA status for our flying sites on the first day of applications. We do not expect to hear anything for quite a while. Meantime, flying proceeds as usual.

It has also been announced that Flite Test Community Association (FTCA) has also been recognized as a CBO. This is a relatively new organization. You can find them at FliteTest.com join for free. Their motto is “Bringing Hope to the Hobby” by making it accessible to current and future generations. Whether this will complement or compete with AMA efforts remains to be seen. Past efforts at alternative organizations have been divisive at best. The model aviation community is not large, and any splintering only weakens our collective voice.

Next Float Fly May 20 Santa Fe Dam Lake Swim Beach area

The March Float Fly had perfect weather and excellent attendance. Lots of retrievals but no major crashes. Thanks to Cliff for the beers marinated Dodger dogs and fixings. Don’t miss the May event.

The January float fly was well attended. I guess people were anxious to get outside. The weather was good enough: overcast but mild and little wind. Few casualties except for a large Canadair, going in north of the island. Ground search and no-res drone photos were unable to locate it.

Plan on attending the March Float Fly on March 11. We will have a $10 landing fee and include lunch again!

We also want to thank LeRoy for his efforts at making the event happen. This time he installed a new propeller and mount for the outboard motor! As well as keeping track of attendance and paperwork.

We also want to thank Kent Smith and others for top-coating over offensive graffitti that was spray painted on our runway. The club takes pride and is grateful for the use of our field and have always cone our best to maintain the area.

The FAA has announced a list of approved organization to administer a recreational drone test, designed to provide recreational drone pilots with “aeronautical safety knowledge and an overview of the rules for operating drones in the National Airspace System,” says the FAA press release.

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 directed the FAA to develop a recreational drone operator test: the drone industry provided stakeholder input, and the result is a free, online test administered by non-government test administrators. Recreational drone flyers who pass the test will be issued a completion certificate. When asked, a recreational drone pilot must provide evidence of having taken the test. Currently, however, the FAA has not announced a system to enforce test taking or to educate consumers about the test at time of purchase.

In addition to clubs such as the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the Boy Scouts of America, TRUST will be administered by qualified educational and training organizations across the country.

4worldlovers: This facility is designed to accommodate four general types of powered remotely controlled aircraft in separate areas of the park.

This facility does NOT accommodate free flight aircraft, Kites, rocketry of any kind; R/C cars or R/C trucks.

1. All pilots must fly from one of the designated pilot stands.

3. Take-off and landings to be in the same direction according to the wind.

4. Down-wind passes over the runway are prohibited when other aircraft are flying.

5. Some sort of fuel recovery system must be used when fueling planes to avoid spillage.

7. Pilots will call out their intentions (landing, take-off, etc) and clear the runway quickly.

Failure to comply with these regulations may result in a citation, loss of flying privilege or both.
