Ventura is situated between the Ventura River and the Santa Clara River, with soil so fertile that citrus trees grow better in Ventura than anywhere else in the state. The United States Naval Base Ventura County is located close by.

Completed in December 2009, the beautiful Veterans Home of California–Ventura is a 60-bed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), also known as assisted living.

All healthcare needs, meals, transportation and activities are provided by the Veterans Home of California–Ventura, in partnership with the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

Our Veterans Connection office has grown from serving a small handful of veterans on a weekly basis to more than 40 veterans per week, which equates to more than 2,000 veterans annually.

The Oxnard Post of the American Legion has proudly served the veterans and community of Ventura County for over 100 years. In September of 2019, the Post celebrated its 100th anniversary.


“American Legion Post 48 exists to support fellow veterans, their families, and our community."

Operation Helping Hand is currently underway. This is a fundraising event to raise money for the American Legion's local Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Programs. This fundraising effort is being conducted by Ventura-based fundraising company Diamond Star Productions (DSP). DSP has been helping Ventura County nonprofits with their fundraising efforts in one way or another for over 35 years, and has helped organizations such as Ventura County Crime Stoppers, Ventura County Deputy Sheriff's Association and the Peace Officers Association of Ventura County. This fundraising event is being done through the Ventura County Council which represents all 7 American Legion Posts within Ventura County. Those who have served, and those currently serving in the uniformed services of the United States, are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice. We are compelled to never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, there are others who have endured and may still be enduring the agonies of pain, deprivation and imprisonment.

In 1919, The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Each of these pillars encompasses a variety of programs that benefit our nation’s veterans, its service members, their families, the youth of America and ordinary citizens. These programs make a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives each year.

The Americanism pillar and Children & Youth pillar can create confusion, especially with new Legionnaires. Often the work of the Americanism programs are confused with the programs of Children & Youths because so many young people are involved in Americanism programs.

In reviewing the two lists it becomes clear our Americanism programs are focused on activities and youth development. The Children & Youth programs are more focused on financial assistance for young people in need.
