I’m Holly Furgason and the Founder of Blue Sparrow Pilates. I have the most incredible job. I help people feel better in their bodies, and I assist my community in becoming healthier, happier, and more fit. I guide aspiring teachers on their path towards becoming skilled Pilates professionals, who then go on to help their communities and build businesses of their own. I’ve been lucky enough to learn from all my clients, accumulating thousands of hours of teaching experience. I have been studying Pilates, dance, and movement for almost three decades and I’m still learning. I’m fascinated with deeply investigating the body. Modern science and research informs my exploration.

Private sessions take place with the client and the teacher moving around the room doing appropriate exercises on each of the apparatus. Each POP teacher gives the client a full evaluation and or a fitness assessment to be able to devise a program based on the individual’s needs and goals. Privates may be done once a week or every day if the individual wants. It depends on how much torture one can endure. Rates per session are based on the instructor’s experience.

We try to match clients with the best fitting instructor for that client’s schedule, injuries, fitness level, personality.

We offer small group classes on our new Balanced Body Allegro 2 Reformers. We limit the size to just 5 students which ensures a lot of individual attention, hence no cheating! These innovative reformers provide infinite exercise possibilities for movement invention. Our group class programming tries to include all fitness levels and ages, depending on the class. These classes are a fun and more economic option to continue to do Pilates longterm. They are also a great way to supplement privates. Classes range in style from a Cardio Kick Butt Class to a Candlelit Restorative Class. We offer pre-natal classes and a class designed for our Active Agers, students over 60+, as examples of the diversity of our clients.

Karen is a wonderful and compassionate Pilates teacher. She has taught me so much more than Pilates. I feel like my body is transformed from the work we do together, and there is more to come! I started working with Karen after I graduated from Physical Therapy for a back injury. My work with her is integral to maintaining my largely pain free existence.

This is my first experience with pilates, and it's been incredibly helpful. After a series of sessions with Karen, I have noticed immense improvement around my back pain and overall health. I have struggled with back and hip issues for about 10 years, and pilates seems to be finally getting at the root of my trouble. Beginning with basics, such as how I am breathing, we have made some powerful shifts in how my body moves. Karen's simple exercises have helped to engage muscles that have seemingly been asleep for years while disengaging the hip flexors and giving them a break from all the unnecessary work they've been doing. Karen Campbell has been teaching Pilates since 2005. Her mindful teaching style encourages individuals to develop a deeper ability to listen to their body and find the strength, awareness and connection needed to move free of tension and pain. Her deep understanding of the body comes from extensive training in dance, somatic movement studies and anatomy. Karen earned a comprehensive 800 hour certification in mat and equipment based Pilates from EHS Pilates. In addition, she studied rehabilitative applications of Pilates with Lizz Roman, EHS Rehab Specialist. San Francisco based fitness centers and studios where Karen has taught include JCCSF Fitness Center Club One, Simply Balanced and EHS Pilates.

Karen holds a Master in Nonprofit Administration from University of San Francisco School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Environmental Sciences from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio.
