Welcome to Metalworkssf! We are located in the heart of North Beach in one of the longest ongoing metal studios in all of North America, Macchiarini Design Jewelry. The school was founded by educator, and jeweler Emma Macchiarini in 2015. This is a woman run business, and one of the only jewelry schools in the Bay Area with this distinction. Metalworkssf is the product of the experience created by three generations of metalsmithing at Macchiarini Design Jewelry. The school and the studio/gallery operate together within the space on Grant Ave.

This is a wonderful place to experience the joy of hand fabrication, casting, and metalwork. We encourage a hands on, somatic approach to Jewelry making, which echoes a not so distant past of traditional craft. We are interested in creating crafts people who are familiar with the activity and process of the bench Jeweler. We do not have a matriculation process, or certificate, but by being in this space, students will gain access to a tradition of creating wearable art, and the opportunity to stretch artistic boundaries of Jewelry craft.

We welcome people of all genders, nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, social classes, sexual orientation, and varying ability. Students will be treated with respect and welcomed to the space. You are safe here.

Our Covid-19 safety policies have shifted since our initial re-opening. We are no longer requiring masks during class meetings, however students may continue to wear masks in. the classroom if that is what feels safest. Thank you for understanding.

In general refunds are not given for deposits in any of the classes. However, some exceptions may be given around illness or quarantine for Covid-19 related absence.

4worldlovers: Beading is a great opportunity to enjoy the extra hours at home. If you need some beading supplies, you are always welcome. We require masks and maintain 6 feet of social distancing. Our surfaces are disinfected throughout the day.

Classes range from beginning stringing to elaborate crystal and beaded necklaces. Offered Wednesday and Friday Evenings and Saturday afternoon. Supplies may be purchased at the store before class. Call or email the store with any questions. You must pre register for all classes.

We are recognized internationally for our work to preserve and promote all embroidery, elevating this work from craft to art, and expanding its definition to share a broader understanding of embroidery’s historical and cultural influence.

We aim to sustain this art form by educating the novice to the career professional. We teach core skills from a range of genres that encourage the exploration of new materials, contemporary designs, and conceptual practices. Our Educators are skilled in meeting students where they are, cultivating unique experiences for each student.

Our Collection and Research Library offer opportunities for deep study and our exhibition spaces allow students to experience their artwork exhibited in a professional manner. 4worldlovers: “Tuition is $450 per semester which typically are 8 weeks long. A $100 deposit holds your spot for a class.

Tuition deposits are refundable until two weeks before the scheduled class begins. $350 due upon the first class. If a credit card is used, a small fee may still apply and will be deducted from the refund (after 180 days). If your choice is full get on the waiting list below.”
