After speaking to different recruiters and administrators, I felt that USU’s philosophy of education was in-line with mine. Unlike other universities, United States University allowed me to continue to work while going to school and the program costs were closer to that of state schools than other online universities.

My advisor was my biggest advocate. He went above and beyond to support me. If I ever had a question or concern, he always ensured I received a quick and timely solution and followed up with me to ensure I had the best possible experience.

The flexibility of the program. I wanted to be able to keep my job with the San Diego Youth Symphony while getting my credential, something that would not have been possible with other options in the area. When I was already enrolled in the program I received an offer for a full time job in a different city, and because of the flexibility of the program and professors I was able to move to a new city and still meet my expectations for classes.

My Favorite thing about the FNP program was the convenience of online learning, and my clinical hours could be completed locally. All instructors were very knowledgeable of the field. Many had great experiences to share and tips for my future. The material presented challenged me and built upon my existing knowledge.

Graduates of the ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate Program are well prepared to assist in the effective delivery of legal services in both the private and public sectors of our society. Paralegals are trained members of a legal team who work under the supervision of attorneys. A team concept approach to legal matters ensures professional representation of clients and reduces the cost of legal services. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.

The USD Paralegal Certificate Program began in 1975 and in 1977 became the first ABA-approved Paralegal Program in San Diego

In 2019 became USD School of Law Paralegal Program, one of only a few ABA-approved paralegal programs affiliated with an ABA-accredited law school

American Bar Association (ABA) approval, a national benchmark, ensures students quality in curriculum, faculty, libraries, and student services. California’s Business and Professions Code lists graduation from an ABA-approved paralegal program as one of the criteria for using the title of paralegal. An Advisory Committee comprised of attorneys, paralegals, educators, and members of the general public meets regularly to review curriculum issues and employment trends.

The goal of the USD School of Law Paralegal Certificate Program is to prepare graduates to assist in the effective delivery of legal services in the public and private sectors. Program graduates will develop practical skills in preparation for a paralegal career; acquire foundational knowledge in substantive areas of law necessary to perform work under the supervision of an attorney; understand legal ethics and the role of the paralegal in the legal environment; understand basic legal concepts and terminology and our court structure; understand and practice the elements of legal research and analysis; and become familiar with and practice appropriate technology use in the legal environment.
