CSUSB Adventure's mission is to provide the community with a diverse range of outdoor recreational and educational opportunities. We incorporate "Leave No Trace" and cultural/historical knowledge about the areas we visit. Participants will learn how to recreate safely in the great outdoors, develop an appreciation and understanding of our natural surroundings, experience personal growth and leadership development, learn teamwork and healthy communication skills, form new relationships and of course... have fun!


CSUSB Adventure offers something for everyone! Day hikes into the local mountains, overnight camping trips to a local beach, state, and national parks, backpacking in remote wilderness locations, surfing in California's popular beaches, snowboarding at local mountain resorts, kayaking in the bay, ocean, and the river, group outings, team building and education programs.


No experience is required to participant. Adventure will provide transportation, food and all the gear you will need for your outing.


Registration for trips and programs takes place ONLINE (click on link in calendar event) or in person at the CSUSB Student Recreation and Wellness Center membership desk during regular operating hours. Full payment (cash, check, Visa or MasterCard) is due at time of reservation. For more information give us a call at 537-2267.

Affiliates are individuals 18 years of age or older who live at the same address as Student Recreation & Wellness Center member, are eligible to register for trips at the Affiliate rate. Registration takes place in person with the CSUSB student or SRWC member at the CSUSB Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Proof of co-residency required (government IDs, utility bills).


SRWC members, current Non-fee paying faculty, staff, retired/emeritus faculty/staff, continuing students, visiting faculty, and CSUSB Alumni Association Members can sponsor up to 2 guest to join them on a trip. Sponsored Guest must be 18 years of age or older and register in person at the CSUSB Student Recreation & Wellness Center with their sponsor an pay the Sponsored Guest rate.


Designed to focus on the experience and not the journey. These trips will have a shorter duration of time for any physical activity, they will be lower in mileage. You do not need any previous experience to thoroughly enjoy yourself on these trips.


Designed for the novice adventurer looking to learn more about the outdoors. These trips will ease you out of your comfort zone, and teach you some of the basic essentials of what to do and how to do it in order to have fun in the wilderness. No experience is needed to sign up for these trips, but a basic level of fitness will help to make these trips more enjoyable.


Walking/Hiking: Average miles per day – 4-6 (pack with 5-10 lbs.)


Designed for the seasoned explorer as well as the daring novice. Participants on these trips will experience advanced challenges for beginners. You may experience longer hours, higher mileage, greater elevations or rigorous challenges. There is also potential for higher levels of exertion on these trips.

Walking/hiking: Average miles per day – 7-10 (pack with less than 40 lbs.)

Designed for the veteran outdoors person. On these trips you can expect longer days, more miles, greater challenges, and higher levels of exertion. As with all aspects of CSUSB Adventures trip we invite novices on any of our trips. In order to promote safety for all participants and staff, a high level of fitness is encouraged.

Walking/hiking: Average miles per day – more than 10 (pack with 40+ lbs.)

With a range of Big Bear activities to choose from, you are sure to find something to do with the whole family! Looking for action and adventure? Check out the Big Bear bike, kayak, and paddle board rentals here at Getboards. You can embark on a wild adventure through Snow Summit Bike Park, or you can slow down and relax with downtown shopping in the Village, a horse drawn carriage ride, or massage at a local spa. Our favorite restaurants are Fire Rock, 572 Social, and The Oakside all located in the village. For some family fun, you can head over to Magic Mountain's Alpine slide, and ride the Mineshaft Rollercoaster! Race your friends and family at the Big Bear Speedway as well as climb as high as you can on the ropes course. You could even go dancing on Big Bear's largest dance floor at Wyatt's Grill and Saloon! Check out Action Ziplines to fly over a few of our beautiful mountain views. Enjoy some retro neon bowling at The Bowling Barn or have a relaxing lake day by renting a pontoon boat at Big Bear Marina. Looking to enjoy Big Bear's beautiful hiking trails? Check out Castle Rock, a 2.4 mile hike which takes you to an overlook of the lake. It is a steep trail, including some easy rock climbing to get to the top with a rewarding view of Big Bear Lake! Cougar Crest Trail is also a great option if you are looking for a moderate level hike. It is about 5.3 miles with a bit of an incline but awesome views of Big Bears mountain and wildlife! Looking for a trail the whole family can enjoy? Go try the Woodland Trail, a 1.5 mile loop with easy inclines and declines. It takes about 30 minutes to complete, and has some great peek-a-boo views of the lake! Make sure you have an Adventure Parking Pass with you when you check out these hikes! You can find them at our location, Getboards at 40905 on Big Bear Blvd. It is just $5 for the day. Or if you are looking to go on adventures all year long, we sell yearly Adventure Passes for $30. Whatever you like, there are plenty of things to do in Big Bear while you're here in our beautiful mountain town!

Back by popular demand, the 2021 Bird Walks & Talks event schedule is now available. Join us this Spring through Fall for a variety of Chirp’s nature-themed Walks and Talks presentations. These events are typically hosted in-person at Chirp’s wild bird store in the Big Bear Lake Village. Due to the 2020 pandemic, last year’s events were modified, with some in-person events cancelled, some still held but masked and socially distanced, and many new virtual events added. This year we will continue the formats with a mixture of in-person and virtual events.

Chirp’s in-person Bird Walks are scheduled every 1st Saturday of the month, May through October, and leave Chirp at 8am.

Chirp’s virtual Bird Walks are scheduled every 2nd Wednesday of the month, May through October, and are held online at 5pm.
