4worldlovers: Protected in June 2008 through a public-private partnership: Placer County Flood Control & Water Conservation District owns the land and Placer Land Trust controls the easement.

The flood control project takes pressure off the stream channel during periods of high flooding. The earthen berm walls will channel up to 160 acre feet of flood waters into the basin, securing it until the peak flows are over.

The flood control basin functions as a natural wetlands with restored natural vegetation and stream function, improving habitat for spawning salmon.

On February 10, 1998 the Board of Supervisors approved the Traylor Ranch Nature Reserve. Thank you to the LBHA members that worked with the Traylors and the County to make this happen. Hurrah! The same afternoon, Supervisor Robert Weygandt and Placer County Parks Department representatives presented a granite plaque to the Traylor’s in recognition of their donation. This plaque will be mounted on a granite slap at the entrance to the Reserve. We are very grateful to the Traylor's for this generous donation of almost 90 acres. They also donated $1,000.00 to the Traylor Ranch Nature Reserve Fund to help with the project.
