The University of California, Riverside held its first standalone Give Day on April 6-7, 2023, with the School of Medicine attracting 72 donors and earning a total of $12,819. The total includes an additional $2,500 in Beyond Brilliant matching funds in recognition of the school's third place finish in the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees Top Three Challenge.

The UCR School of Medicine was well represented at the Southern California Psychiatric Society's (SCPS) annual Installation and Awards Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the UCLA Faculty Club as Vice Chancellor and Mark and Pam Rubin Dean Deborah Deas MD, MPH, faculty member Ijeoma Ijeaku, MD, MPH, FAPA, Third-year Resident Ruqayyah Malik, MD, and Chief Resident Erin Fletcher, MD, MPH were honored.


Hundreds of thousands of spinal surgeries are performed every year in the U.S., with many involving pedicle screws to stabilize the vertebrae. As patients walk around with the implanted screw—many for the rest of their lives—most are likely unaware that the proceeds from one type of pedicle screw helps fund the UC Riverside School of Medicine to improve medical care in Inland Southern California.
