RPAL programs meet young people "where they are," offering a variety of structured educational and recreational programs and activities that are challenging yet enjoyable to our members. Our services and resources are essential to many young people who frequent our one-stop youth center. Whether young people need a meal, homework assistance, a safe place to go after-school, or just need a caring adult to talk to, RPAL is responsive to their needs.
Being an RPAL member provides a safe space for young people to effectively develop personal and interpersonal skills, gain self-confidence and self-esteem, positively interact with peers, and build a strong support network for making healthy life choices.
"Everybody can be great . . . because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
Helping young people has a dual benefit. Not only does it provide support to those young people on the receiving end, but it also makes you, the helper, feel good too. The benefits of altruism -- along with its sister behaviors empathy and compassion -- are well documented but not necessarily well understood.
