Oakland Dog Training Club has been teaching people how to train their dogs since 1947. We believe that both people and dogs are happiest when the dog is a well-behaved family member who knows what is expected of them. We have found that training integrates better into family life if an owner is the one who trains the dog, rather than having this done by a professional trainer. Both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome at all our classes.

ODTC offers a complete training program divided into different levels. Your dog will learn to follow your commands even with the distractions of other dogs and people. Start with Puppy class or our Beginning Obedience class, depending on the age of your dog, and continue through Intermediate and Advanced (Off-Leash Control) classes. Many people even choose to continue their obedience training after the basics, and enter their dogs in Obedience Trials or prepare for Rally or Agility. Every dog loves to have a job, and it is fun besides!

Classes are held in our indoor training facility, which is fully matted, and has mirrors.

You don't need to be a member to take our classes, but only registered students, club member dogs, and service dogs are allowed into our training facility. We are located near Point Isabel Dog Park, close to the Albany/El Cerrito/Richmond border.

Welcome! Our mission is to help our clients become "the leader of their pack" using dog-friendly, non-food based techniques (no shock collars or harsh methods ever!). We come to you! Your home and neighborhood are where most dog issues begin and where your dog can focus. This is why it's best to start in your home and backyard. We also do off-site lessons at the local dog park or teach you how to calmly walk your dogs through town on a busy weekend afternoon without getting distracted! Being in a familiar environment, where there's nothing competing for your dog's attention, enables us to address dog obedience issues very quickly. In fact, it's very common for clients to see results with dog behavioral issues in the first 20 minutes of our lesson! Expensive "boot camps," or sleep away training, are not as effective because your dog needs to respect and listen to YOU in YOUR HOME, not a trainer at some facility. Besides, wouldn't you rather be a part of shaping your dog's behavior to the way you want it to be?

No "one size fits all" group dog training or puppy training classes. We develop a personalized one-on-one program for you based on your dog's particular personality, perspective, and your goals. You'll learn how to read your dog's reactions and adjust your communication as needed depending on how your dog is responding.

No shock collars, choke collars, pinning, intimidation, or clickers. Unlike some trainers, we never use harsh techniques or bribe with food to extort good behavior. Our dog training focuses on using dogs' natural instincts to work toward a win-win situation for you and your dog. Trust, clear communication, and understanding produces longer lasting results than treat training or force.

Dogs don't understand English any better than Italian. It's no wonder they can't immediately understand your verbal commands. You should learn your dog's language not the other way around. This is especially true if your dog is stressed or seems resistant to what you have already tried. We will teach you to communicate using the language your dog already understands. You will learn how to use your body language and voice tones to get your dog to focus on you and respond to your directions. It's really amazing for both you and your dog when you can finally understand what each other wants!

Adoption is at an all-time high - which is great! We have helped countless families welcome their newly adopted puppy or adult dog to their home. Not all dogs (unfortunately) have had the best experiences before you adopt them. We will help your new furry family member adjust to your home and establish a calm, balanced environment that you both desire.

4worldlovers: Is a non-profit organization dedicated to dog training. We offer affordable classes in all levels of training from Puppy Head Start to advanced competition level classes for those pursuing AKC or All American obedience titles. We also offer classes in conformation, Rally and NoseWork. Our instructors are AKC obedience ring judges and/or accomplished professionals who show their dogs. In addition to our classes, we hold an annual AKC licensed Obedience Trial, an annual Show & Go workshop, an annual AKC licensed Agility Trial, and Canine Good Citizen tests throughout the year. We also hold obedience seminars as well as other dog-related seminars, such as earthquake and disaster preparedness, and canine ophthalmology!

At MDDTC, we welcome all breeds, mixed or purebred, and all ages, puppy through seniors. We emphasize a positive, fun environment where our approach to training dogs consists of 3 elements: 1.) Teach 2.) Practice 3.) Correct in a gentle, respectful way. We stress the 3 C's: Consistency; Communication and Compassion to self and to the dog. During our classes, we use reward-based training methods as our experience has shown us that use of such methods is the best way to teach behaviors to our dogs. Our goal is to teach owners how to teach their dogs to be happy, healthy members of the family. In our competition classes, we prepare handlers and their dogs to enter the show ring if they choose.
