4worldlovers: After having spent more than a decade in Copenhagen, Denmark, Chef Nichole Accettola has created her own gathering place for good Scandinavian food in San Francisco: Kantine, the Danish word for canteen - a place were friends and co-workers gather to share a hearty lunch and enjoy each other’s company.

We make Scandinavian-inspired food from seasonal, organic and sustainable ingredients. And whenever possible, we make it from scratch, so we know what's in it.

I absolutely love this place. If you’re looking to pay $40 for a Wulff & Konstali style brunch after waiting forever in a line of people who heard about “Scandi food” on Tiktok and all have 100 questions about the menu, look no further. The food is actually really fantastic and I go almost every week. I really love the pastries in particular. You’d be hard pressed to find this sort of place outside of Denmark, so I would recommend it if you’re interested in Nordic food. But definitely familiarize yourself with the menu before it’s your turn to order.

Enjoyed their brunch. There was a 20 min line at about noon on a Saturday. I like that you can build a brunch plate with 5-7 options - great way to try a lot of stuff. Their iced coffee is so expensive for just an 8oz serving. After I ordered it and saw it come out, I bought another immediately (for a grand total of $11 for one typical serving).

Kantine is an absolute gem! Nichole and her staff are so friendly and kind. You gotta try the home-made coffee and delicious brunch boards (which can be made gluten-free).
