4worldlovers: St. David of Wales Parish was established in 1951 as part of the San Francisco Archdiocese while the adjoining school, St. David of Wales Catholic School, opened in 1963 with only four grades within the street level area of the building. For every year after 1963, a new grade was added until there were a total of eight grades. During this time, the lower level of the school building was completed, adding more classrooms and a parish hall (now called Rose Mello Hall), our Kindergarten program in 1982, our Pre-Kindergarten in 1987, and the school remained staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame who left twenty years after the school’s opening in 1984.

St. David of Wales Catholic School (commonly shortened to “St. David School”), as of now, has a lay principal, staff and faculty. We also have 2 locations, our Pre-K building on 5613 Garvin Avenue, and our main Kindergarten - 8th grade building on 871 Sonoma Street—both located in Richmond, CA. The school is very proud to have been the recipient of a National Award for Excellence in Education in 1985 and to have been able to add a a science lab and computer lab in 1992 to the main school building.

St. David School is accredited through Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA)

I had the fortunate experience of attending St. David School, myself, from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, graduating with the class of 2006. I went on to graduate from Salesian College Preparatory with the class of 2010, and then graduate from California State University, East Bay with the class of 2014. I earned my California Teaching Credential in 2015 and my Masters Degree in Teaching from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2017.

I am most proud that I am serving our school community as a fellow alum. This is my 9th school year in leadership at St. David School, and my 25th year in the St. David community overall. I joined our faculty and staff as a long term substitute teacher in August of 2014, and went on to become a full time 5th grade teacher the following school year. I had the blessing of teaching one 4th grade Homeroom class, four 5th grade Homeroom classes, and serving our school community as our Vice Principal before stepping into the position of Principal. In addition, I also serve as a parishioner here at St. David of Wales Parish.

Many people who have experienced the St. David community understand the passion shared here because of the experiences and memories held in their hearts. Many of those who think of St. David will smile, because at some point, there was something or someone that left them with plenty to smile about.

Here at St. David School, we have a dedicated team of teachers, as well as all faculty and staff, who pride themselves in ensuring that students understand their faith, work ethic, engagement in curriculum, having fun while learning, social interaction, the words “respect” and “family,” and so much more beyond the classroom.
