Greetings. I’m Dr. Monemian, a hematologist/oncologist at Kaiser Permanente’s Lancaster Medical Office, specializing in the treatment of blood disorders (hematology) and cancer (oncology). While many of the patients I treat are going through challenging times, I do my best to keep them aware and informed of all their options so that together we can develop the best course of action.


I am often asked why I became a hematologist/oncologist. Always curious and having a great love of science and research, I’ve found this field to be incredibly fascinating, challenging, and rewarding. My original training was at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences where I earned my medical degree. I then came to the United States to further my education. After two years as a cancer research scientist, I began my internship and residency with the highly regarded New York Methodist Hospital, an affiliate of Weill Medical College of Cornell University. I then went on to complete two additional years as a research fellow at New York University’s Department of Pharmacology, where I conducted cancer research and published a number of articles and abstracts in medical journals. A clinical fellowship in hematology and oncology followed, again at NYMH/Weill Medical College of Cornell University. After spending 10 years in New York, I moved to California and joined Kaiser Permanente in 2011.


Being triple board certified (internal medicine, hematology, and oncology) puts me in a good position to help patients with challenging conditions. I always make a point of reviewing each patient’s medical history before we meet, so I understand a great deal about their issues ahead of time. I then work with the patient, their family, and all the other physicians involved with the case to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treating the illness and seeking the best possible outcome. My goal is always to provide patients with the information and knowledge regarding their conditions and the available treatments, so they may make intelligent decisions about their best path forward.


As a physician who faces tough diseases on a daily basis, I understand that life is beautiful and every day is a gift to be treasured. By staying active physically, nurturing our inner spirit, and finding emotional comfort with those we love most, we can make the most of our time here on earth. Spending time with my lovely wife and twin boys keeps me running, laughing, and living. Simply being with them renews me. Together we swim, bike, and barbeque. I am fortunate to have them.
