WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL THERAPY? Educational Therapists are trained to help individuals with learning and processing challenges, in order to improve their academic skills, whilst also addressing attention, anxiety and/or behavioral issues.


Educational Therapists focus on particular issues (e.g. dyslexia, disgraphia, discalculia, executive functioning deficits, memory, attention, visual & auditory processing, and autism spectrum disorders) and use strategies called targeted interventions.


Educational Therapists are trained to recognize learning difficulties and how these affect academic progress and behavior. They can also recommend strategies for future use, such as techniques to improve reading comprehension, planning projects, homework help, and test preparation.

Tutors, while helping students improve their grades, they focus on a particular academic subject, such as math or science. Tutors may not have the experience required to work with children who have learning and attention problems and remediate missing skills.

I have a Master's degree and California Teaching Credential in Special Education and a post-graduate Educational Therapy Certificate in advanced practices. Complimentary 45-minute initial consultations are offered to evaluate the client's application, background and learning needs with the parents/guardians. A recommended program and schedule of services is then structured to create goals for the client and also provide referrals.

Educational Therapist is available to work on an hourly basis to meet with parents and clients at my office, evaluate, test, observe, review records, synthesize information, attend school meetings and conferences, collaborate with Allied Professionals (i.e. teachers, LEP's, doctors, specialists, & co.), advocate, facilitate communication, refer and provide guidance.

Our daughter recently transitioned to Ms. Hurley’s Learning Center at Willow Elementary. Over the 3 months to conclude her 4th grade year, she has shown better understanding of material taught, increased independence to complete assignments, and most importantly, is now enjoying learning. Ms. Hurley has implemented a course curriculum that enables the student to feel empowered and accomplished. We look forward to continued success in Ms. Hurley’s Learning Center as our child will begin to navigate 5th grade.
