Walter Kummetz and Heinz Zaiser founded K&Z Cabinet Company in June 1964. One year after its founding, K&Z joined the Woodwork Institute of California. The company was later incorporated in October 1975.

Heinz and Walter first met while working in California as installers at the same company. As natives of Germany, they not only shared a similar immigration experience, they also shared a common work ethic: both men were firm believers in the "Old World" principals of quality, craftsmanship and integrity. These three core values became the foundation upon which K&Z was built.

K&Z's first fifteen years were full of challenges, but Heinz and Walter, along with a dedicated staff of only ten employees, patiently weathered each storm. The fledgling company slowly but surely established for itself a reputation of excellence. At the time, K&Z operated from a small building in South El Monte, California.

In 1978, business finally began to pick up. As K&Z's project volume increased, so did its staff-so much so that it outgrew the South El Monte location. The now stable, mid-sized company was forced to relocate to its current facility in Ontario, California.

After thirty-plus years of serving as joint owners of K&Z, Heinz and Walter finally decided to retire in 1998. They sold their company to Dennis Chan, who was then Vice President and had been with K&Z for over ten years. Shortly after Dennis acquired the company, K&Z became certified as a MBE Casework Manufacturer.

K&Z Cabinet Company is now one of southern California's largest casework manufacturers, demonstrating steady growth since its humble beginnings in 1964. It has gone from a handful of workers to over eighty-five office, shop and field employees.

The company has completed well over 3,500 projects over the past forty-four years, many of which were for world-class medical, commercial and educational facilities. Some of K&Z's most noteworthy projects include: the new Nursing Tower at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills; Rand Corporate Headquarters in Santa Monica; and various projects for USC, UCLA, UCSB and numerous K-12 schools in the Los Angeles and Anaheim Unified School Districts.

Dennis began as an estimator with K&Z in 1987. He was promoted to Vice President in 1995 and became owner and President in 1998. In addition to managing the company, Dennis continues to lead an active role in K&Z's daily operations, from estimating jobs to negotiating sales.

Mike first came to K&Z almost thirty years ago, in February 1980. As the current Vice President, he oversees all of K&Z's operations, from in-house manufacturing to outside installation.

Troy has been a project manager at K&Z since March 1999. In November 2003, he accepted the position of Senior Project Manager, supervising K&Z 's Project Management Staff and handling Special Projects. He has a B.A. from UC Riverside and has been in the construction industry since 1987.
