4worldlovers: For 20 years, Bread of Life has served Oceanside by meeting tangible, short-term needs for food, clothing and resource navigation and providing a welcoming, loving community for those in need of hope and compassion.

Now, we are partnering with the City of Oceanside to open a permanent 30-day shelter for men, women and families experiencing homelessness in the community.

The new location will be called the San Diego Rescue Mission Oceanside Navigation Center and is currently being remodeled. The opening is anticipated by Summer of 2023.

Located at the former Ocean Shores High School, the new Oceanside Navigation Center will offer 50 safe beds, plus nourishing meals, hot showers and case management for our neighbors in need of short-term, transitional shelter.

Brother Benno’s is committed to operating with a very minimum amount of paid staff to accomplish our Mission and to enlist the greatest number of volunteers to help with the same goal.

Our Board of Directors is a “working” board and receives no compensation. Fund raising is carried out by our volunteers, grant writers and our generous donors, therefore your donations to Brother Benno’s are not eroded by overhead, administrative, and fundraising costs.

Volunteers and program members play a key a role. Each month, over 200 individuals offer their time to carry out important jobs in accomplishing our mission. Over 90% of our funding comes from private donations, grants, and bequests. Our intention is never to rely on government funding to accomplish our mission.

Brother Benno’s wide base of support within the community continues to grow year after year. We are grateful to the thousands of people who express their support of our work with donations of food, clothes, thrift shop items, time and labor, and of course financial contributions. Without them we would cease to exist.

Domestic violence and sexual assault are always wrong and must be stopped. These crimes impact the entire community and the community has a moral obligation to take ownership of the problem and its solutions. Everyone has a right to live in a violence-free home where they are treated with respect and dignity. Victims can be empowered to enhance their lives.

WRC is the recognized leader in providing quality, compassionate, innovate services to families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Through WRC education of future generations, victim empowerment and community awareness, we will create an environment where domestic violence and sexual assault are neither tolerated nor accepted.

The RRHS Legacy Fund @OHNC was born from a partnership with Rapid Response Housing Solutions which has since closed and moved its rapid response housing program to us. The program was based on input from top policy experts and researchers at the Chapin Hall Institute at the University of Chicago. The RRHS Legacy Fund’s mission is to support families in crisis who have emergency financial needs. Research has shown that direct cash assistance can prevent homelessness by stabilizing families through rapid support. Keeping families and individuals in their homes versus living on the streets or in their cars builds stronger, more resilient communities.
