My name is RAYNA How I leaned about this school was from my sister and cousin in which they both finished and got their high school diploma. I’m so greatful to them for sharing this with me . Because if they didn’t I wouldn’t be receiving my high school diploma this July 2023. It was definitely hard for me because I’m a single mother of 4 wonderful children. So I’ve had some set backs but Peggy NEVER gave up on me she continues to push me and keep me focused. And now my next goal is to become an RN which I hope to fulfill sooner then later in which they are also helping me achieve I want to say thank you all for your continued hard work and faithful support your team is definitely a blessing to the community . The best decision I've ever made, I just recently got my high school equivalency there, and the staff and tudors are the sweetest and most supportive and encouraging people I've ever met, if you're thinking about getting your high school diploma/equivalent don't hesitate to call Peggy or Lisa.

Next Step Learning Center has done some amazing work with me they have given me the courage and motivation I never even knew I had they worked with my attitude and continue to push me I didnt have NO diploma and no patienec with working with others but the staff was determined to help me and see me do better i went got my G.E.D. went on to college and got my AA-T in Psychology!!!! I've completely changed my life with the help of Next Step... The sister's the staff Peggy, Jennie, Lisa, etc have starighten my path and made education easier for me to obtain.... Currently getting my MA's in Psychology at SFSU!!!!!!

Next Step Learning Center started in 1994 to address the educational needs of youth and adults in West Oakland. While the Center has grown, our methods of educating the whole person, remain the same. Through one-on-one tutoring, students are coached through the subjects they need help with so they can gain knowledge and pass the exam or earn the credits they need to move forward. We still offer our services for free!

Build up your skills! Students are paired with individual tutors as they study subjects. English, Social Studies, Science and Math are covered in a way that makes sense to YOU! Our volunteer tutors offer patience and compassion as they help you on your educational journey.

High School Diploma Completion Students have the opportunity to complete their high school diploma requirements with our WASC accredited program. At Opportunity Academy, you pick up where you left off, and complete the courses you need to graduate. You will have access to an on-site teacher to help with your subjects and can move at your own pace!

Students prepare for the GED/HiSET exams to earn their High School Equivalency Certificates. Along the way, you are supported as you study for each part of the test. You get one-on-one tutoring in intensive labs or join a small group with an attentive and inspiring teacher. We understand that some subjects may be difficult and offer a supportive learning environment.
