Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the people of the United States into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In Oakland and other offices across the country, the IRC helps them to rebuild their lives.

You’re invited to join legislators from across the United States who are advancing innovative policies to better integrate refugee and immigrant communities.
The IRC will help thousands of refugees in the coming year, most of whom fled violence in Afghanistan. Refugees have a proven attitude of perseverance and determination. Most have a strong desire to create healthy homes and prosperous futures. Refugees are culturally diverse and responsible community members who are eager to establish themselves in and contribute to American society. You can help your community by renting your property to these newcomers as they rebuild their lives.
The IRC in Northern California is pleased to provide our local and national partners with opportunities to engage directly with our programs in a meaningful way. Through volunteer events, small corporate groups work together to deliver their unique assistance and expertise directly to the IRC's refugee and asylee clients. All activities can be paired with an education session that teaches participants the basics of refugee resettlement.
To be a refugee, you have to be open: otherwise it’s like running a hurdle race without having learned to jump. And the race is never over. It just gets better.
IRC offices across the U.S. provide immediate aid--including food, housing and medical attention—among other support.
The IRC offers high-quality, low-cost immigration legal services and citizenship assistance in cities across the U.S.
