Alfonso has been certified by the SPCA in San Francisco as a Professional Pet Groomer, and has studied in animal care schools across the world in Brazil, Germany and the United States.


Opened in 2002, Broadway Grooming Clinic has been a part of the beautiful Old Oakland area and has been working closely with other local related businesses in providing local grooming services for the East Bay area. We have even provided grooming and coat detailing for several winners of local dog shows, including the King’s Kennel Club of California in 2005, and the Mensona Kennel Club in 2006.

In 2018 Alfonso established the Broadway Grooming School where you can get hands-on training and earn a professional pet grooming certificate using stress-free grooming techniques.

Born in Belem, Brazil, Alfonso has studied pet grooming in Germany for two years before studying further in New York City. In addition to being multi-lingual, he often jokes that he also speaks “dog” and “cat”. After completing his upper education, he moved to California where he finished his grooming certification with the San Francisco SPCA. Enamored with the Bay Area, Alfonso then opened Broadway Grooming Clinic in the Old Oakland neighborhood, where he continues to provide local grooming services for all animals to this day.

Leading the Pack fills a much-needed niche in dog care for Oakland and the East Bay, by giving canines top notch one-on-one services.

Our team of courteous, knowledgeable staff will be with you every step of the way.

Due to the increased demand for grooming services, we will no longer be able to squeeze in any last-minute appointments.

Our grooming prices have changed. Our new hourly rate is $100 an hour. **After January 2022, we are requiring that you maintain a regular maintenance grooming schedule for your pet. As always, our prices are all inclusive, there are no add-ons outside of our policy stipulations** Doodles or pups that matt easily or have fast-growing coats are required to stay on a 4-week schedule. All other breeds needing haircuts are ok with a 6 weeks schedule.

Please understand that going too long between grooming appointments causes matting, packed hair and adds extra stress/anxiety and other behavioral issues. A regular grooming schedule will create a better grooming experience for both the pup and the groomer. If your pet is not brushed and maintained at home between grooming sessions, we will automatically add more time to the grooming session.

We will still take shorthaired pups that don't require trimming or require very light trimming with no required schedule, but do recommend at least every 8-12 weeks to maintain a healthy coat.
