They need to have theaters like this in every city! Wish there were places like this in Los Angeles and all over. Way to go, New Parkway. I hope they branch out.

I literally just returned from this theatre and my enthusiasm can barely contain itself. As someone who went to school for film/currently works in film, I applaud anything that reinforces the magic and communal experience of going to the movies.

Truly a unique experience! After visiting The New Parkway for the first time last weekend, my boyfriend and I decided this is the only theater we will go to when we see movies.


This is definitely Oakland's best-kept secret, and probably my new favorite getaway.

3 Screens, DLP Digital Projection and Sound. Operated by Landmark since 1994. The oldest operating movie theatre in the city of Oakland, the Piedmont Theatre opened its doors on September 15, 1917. From its earliest days showing silent films through the studio era (including memorable runs of Jaws and Star Wars in the 1970s) to today's eclectic mix of independent, art-house, and Hollywood fare, the Piedmont has long been a mainstay of the community.

In 2010, the Piedmont Theatre completed a remodeling, returning the vintage theatre to its original grandeur. The remodeling includes modern amenities such as leather theatre seating and upgrades in the lobby and concessions.

During your visit, be sure to stroll the friendly Piedmont Avenue neighborhood, visit the shops, and dine at one of the many fine restaurants.

4worldlovers: Ivy Hill's iconic Parkway Theater building prepares for a legendary comeback with a revived look and a new purpose.

The Parkway will be reborn, complete with a built-in cannabis retail store. Future plans will continue this transformation with the addition of a consumption lounge, community art space, kitchen, and live entertainment venue.


The original Parkway is the flagship location for the new Ivy Hill dispensary brand - open for online and walk-in orders.

4worldlovers: Cultural historian and author Frank Uhle will be joined in conversation with local filmmaker/educator/historian Danny Plotnick to talk about his new book Cinema Ann Arbor. The book offers a first-hand, in-depth look at the history of film-watching and film-making in the college town of Ann Arbor, Michigan and uncovers unexpected and essential stories of the university’s film societies and the campus rebels who ran them. Uhle introduces readers to unforgettable people—nonconformists, artists and nerds, from the Weather Underground to the Velvet Underground—who composed the magnificence of Ann Arbor’s twentieth-century film scene.

Following the conversation, Uhle will present a 40-minute film program including work by Jay Cassidy (editor of American Hustle); George Manupelli (founder of the Ann Arbor Film Festival); Pat Oleszko (beloved festival performance artist); Mary Cybulski and John Tintori (she a script supervisor for Ang Lee; he the editor of Eight Men Out); Danny Plotnick (Skate Witches, and author of Super-8, an illustrated history); and Andrew Lugg (filmmaker/philosophy professor). The experimental shorts will be intercut with oddities and extras including snippets of film used to promote campus screenings, audience-created work from the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and pre-show informational reels. These works have been digitally transferred from original 16mm and 8mm prints, many for the first time, for Uhle's book tour film program.

Our intimate, 40-seat cinema is able to host a range of presentations by contemporary artists working in film, video, sound, music, multimedia and performance. Our focus is primarily on experimental and artist-made.
