We are a young all-rental nonprofit-owned cohousing community (and longtime EBCOHO Supporting Group member) in northwest Oakland (near Emeryville), a block east of San Pablo Avenue. We have started renovation and expansion of our second building, which we expect to be completed in January 2017. We’ll have space for at least 10 more residents.

We are starting the process of recruiting new members now because we are inviting people to join the community as (non-resident) provisional members for two to three months. This gives us time to get to know one another, explore our shared values, and work together before we each make a commitment.

We will hold four open houses to allow prospective applicants to learn about the community and see the property:

Applications are due no later than 5pm on September 7th (see link to online application below). Interviews will be conducted between September 17th and 24th. Decisions will be made at the end of September. Accepted applicants will begin participating as provisional members in Golden Gate activities in October. Final decisions will be made in late November, anticipating move-in January 2017.

The East (newly renovated) House will have three apartments, of two, three, and four bedrooms. The existing West House may have a studio or one-bedroom apartment available. Rents for bedrooms in the East House will range from about $650 to $1,000. Studio and one-bedroom units will be about $1,000 to $1,300. Move-in expense is first and last month’s rent, plus one month’s security deposit.

Shared areas of the community include a large common kitchen, community room, multi-purpose room, laundry, accessible bathroom, guest room, outdoor dining patio, vegetable garden, fruit trees, two roof decks, back yard deck, bike shed, and workshop.

The present community consists of six adults and two teenagers (one part time), in six separate apartments in the West House, plus four non-resident members.

Golden Gate Cohousing’s mission is to provide affordable harmonious eco-housing for people helping to make the world a better place.

North America’s 50th Cohousing Community is preserved in the 1917 Swan’s Market building in the historic Old Oakland neighborhood.

4worldlovers: We are very excited to tell you that OMNI’s Walnut Creek office will be relocating to Concord soon! Our new workplace will be located at the corner of Willow Pass Road and Diamond Way. We will be packing and relocating on Friday, April 28th and are confident everything should be up and running by the afternoon of Monday, May 1st. The office will be closed to visitors during the move, reopening on Tuesday, May 2nd.

We will be available to help our homeowners and residents with urgent matters needing immediate attention during that time. While the move is in progress, our East Bay office team will have limited connectivity. Our Sacramento Office will be fielding calls during this time. OMNI Community Management, LLC, ACMC, serving the East Bay area and Sacramento Valley regions, has achieved California Association of Community Managers’ (CACM) highest designation available for California community management companies–Accredited Community Management Company (ACMC). Accreditation as an ACMC demonstrates that a management company adheres to the highest state-specific standards for professional business practices when managing associations.

CEO Rolf Crocker, an industry veteran with 33 years in the community management field, has led the company since 2015 when he purchased OMNI from founder Susan Oliver. He’s spearheaded the company through growth including the acquisition of Association Communications, Inc. (ACI) in April 2018. ACI CEO Caroline McCormick, like Crocker, values education and certification. Her company had obtained the ACMC designation, and along with Crocker she worked to achieve this designation for OMNI Community Management.

OMNI Community Management has 16 managers who have obtained their CCAM (Certified Community Association Manager) credentials and three employees have their CAFM (Community Association Financial Manager) credentials. Two other employees are in the process of obtaining their CCAM. In addition to investing in employee education and certification, OMNI Community Management also holds an annual seminar for association board members to educate clients.
