Like everyone, I'm tired of waiting for sharpening services to come around once, maybe twice a month if at all, in order to sharpen my own pet grooming and personal trimmer blades. Buying new blades is a waste, since the old ones can still be used with a bit of maintenance by restoring and refining the edges, just like the kitchen knives. Having the tools restored to their proper cutting performance can cost as much as buying the brand new replacement tools.

I love to cook since I was 10, while keeping my family's cutlery razor sharp by using Japanese whetstones, oil stones, and polishing surfaces (not compounds) to maintain cutlery surfaces mirror polished. I've honed my sharpening skills at an early age with the helps from the local bladesmiths and field veterans. While in high school and throughout the college years, I assisted my friends in the barber shops/beauty salons in keeping their tools sharpened, using manual methods. Spending 30 minutes for polishing each blade wasn't an ideal investment of time, but it was surely educational at the basic level. As newer metal alloys were used, manual sharpening became harder for both cutlery and various blades. Modernized mechanical tools eased the work to 5 minutes per unit, follow by a few minutes of finer honing, polishing, adjustment, and evaluation for optimal razor sharpness. But not all metals and edge types are created equal. You can't bring all types of edges to their razor sharpness all the time. Why? It all boils down to fundamental shape of the edge, how the edge was formed for its intended purposes, and how the formulation of the metal was approached. It's literally rocket science. Forgesmiths and bladesmiths can discuss for hours on the introduction of the subjects and write novels in a single subject alone. Ah, those were..the long days.
