As Lead Pastor of The Awakening Church, Kerry Bowman serves from a passionate heart to see each person authentically encounter Jesus Christ and experience His transforming grace.

Having grown up on a large family farm in Indiana, Kerry values the local church as a place to discover God, find community, and gain purpose for life. He has been a student of biblical faith, modern culture and church movements, having earned his Master’s (MDiv) at the Alliance Theological Seminary in New York City and his Doctorate (DMin) at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.

Having served as a church planter and lead pastor in Indianapolis for over 20 years, Kerry, and his wife, Melissa, came to Southern California and The Awakening in 2013, along with their family -- Ryan, Zac, Levi and Grace.

If you're attending church for the first time, you may be a bit nervous. No worries; we're here for you! Here's what you can expect out of your visit.


We know trying something new can sometimes be intimidating, but don't worry! Though many of our members come to church by themselves each week, you can sign up to have your local missionaries accompany you if you'd like.


We believe in following the example of Jesus Christ. This includes feeding the hungry, helping the needy, clothing the naked, and serving in our communities all around the world. Come join us!

Yes. Your local congregation has something for individuals of all ages.

Yes. Many of our members come to church by themselves each week. But if you'd like someone to attend with you the first time, you can sign up here!

There's no requirement to participate. On your first Sunday, you can sit back and just enjoy the service. If you want to participate by taking the sacrament or responding to questions, you're welcome to. Do whatever feels comfortable to you.

You can always count on one main meeting where we take the sacrament to remember the Savior, followed by classes separated by age groups or general interests.

Please wear whatever attire you feel comfortable wearing. In general, attendees wear "Sunday best," which could include button-down shirts, ties, slacks, skirts, and dresses.

About The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Murrieta

Attending church each Sunday is a respite from fast-paced daily living. Attend church at 38980 Sky Canyon Drive to reflect, worship God, strengthen your spiritual connections, and focus on Jesus. Worship with a community of people who are trying to be more Christlike and learn from each other. There are two meetings in a two hour time. The main meeting is called sacrament meeting. This meeting consists of songs, prayers, and sermons (or “talks”) given by different members of the congregation and take the sacrament (or Communion). In addition to sacrament meeting, there are a variety of other classes for both children and adults. There’s something for everyone from 18 months old and up! Each meet together for a lesson and discussion that are based on a different section of scripture each week.
