As the Friends of the Murrieta Library, our mission is to support the Murrieta Public Library through fund-raising, advocacy and volunteerism, and to promote awareness of and support for the Library as it serves the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of our Community.

The current 25,000 square foot Murrieta Public Library opened its doors on March 17, 2007. It houses over 93,000 items in its collection, and has 44 public computers with Internet access. An integral part of the Murrieta community, the Library averages 24,000 visitors a month, and checks out an average of 37,000 items monthly. Last year, the Library presented educational and entertaining programs to over 16,000 children, teens and adults.

The Friends of the Murrieta Library support the Library by fundraising, promoting the Library, and volunteering - in the Library, in the community, and in Friends’ projects. Since its founding in 1996, the Friends of the Murrieta Library has raised over $1,100,000.00 to support the Library. The Friends have donated about $825,000 for many purposes, including:

Approximately $275,000 remains available to meet future Library needs, and is invested in the Dorothy Renon Fund and other funds, which were created to support the Library.

Friends’ members support and assist the Library in many ways, depending on their individual talents and interests, through activities such as:

Working on Heritage Room projects related to the history of our community.

Working in the two Friends’ bookstores, which do a lively business selling a wide variety of donated books in the stores and on the Internet. The Bookstores are entirely operated and staffed by Friends’ volunteers, and are a major source of financial support for the Library’s collection and programs.

Participating in a variety of additional fundraising and community activities, including the annual Fireman’s BBQ book sales, the Murrieta Holiday Festival of Trees, special events such as the “Jazz at the Garden” concerts and Murrieta Field of Honor flag sales, and fundraising lunches/dinners at community restaurants.

They are interested in preserving libraries as a source of freedom, and strive to enrich our libraries' resources by making their services better known to the community.

Members are people of all ages, in all occupations with a wide variety of special interests. They are people who have one thing in common - they love our libraries and appreciate the books, special programs and services offered by both of the libraries in Temecula. Friends of the Temecula Libraries members experience the gratification of knowing that they are supporting the libraries with their annual dues and their volunteering spirit. Our main source of revenue to support our libraries comes from the sale of used books in our bookstores.
