Taking you through the charming historical town of Julian, this 35-mile route offers breathtaking views of the Cuyamaca Mountains and the Anza-Borrego Desert. Its diverse topography offers every terrain, from scenic valleys to twisty mountain roads. Plus, it's close to San Diego, with the entire loop doable within a day.

Mount Soledad offers panoramic views of the San Diego city skyline, the Pacific Ocean, and scattered charming small towns. The roads to Mount Soledad offer plenty of challenges with sweeping turns and elevation changes. The actual site of Mount Soledad is steeped in historical tradition, paying tribute to the United States armed forces with the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial.

Located at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, this is a desert landscape route that takes you to rugged canyons and eye-popping rock formations, complete with twisting mountain passes and total immersion into Borrego Desert State Park, one of California's most prestigious state parks. Of the four routes mentioned, the Borrego Springs route is the best for wildlife viewing. Don't be surprised to catch bighorn sheep and desert tortoises everywhere.
