Georgina Euan: Attended the Skylark Lecture Series and the speakers are fantastic & informative. It's a great outlet for students who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math &/or medicine.They have films every Saturday and I strongly encourage local OC Community Members to experience the Planetarium at least once!

Alex: Fantastic experience! I'm looking forward to attending here more.But, what's with the chairs? To become fully immersed, one should be looking straight up in the theater. Instead, the chairs ensure that, in order to be seated properly and look up, you have to tilt your head all the way back, then roll your eyes all the way up - it's not a comfortable position to maintain for any amount of time, let alone a full hour. If you don't do this, then you're only looking forward and a bit up, roughly at the angle of watching a high-mounted TV at a sports bar.Thankfully, the groups on both sides of us didn't quite understand what they were signing up for and decided to depart about 1/2 way into the show. It allowed us to sort of spread out and "lay down", so that the back of our heads were on the seat bottom cushion. It's not the most comfortable way to sit, but it's the best way to experience this planetarium!

Nate Cortez: We're very fortunate to be able to have a planetarium like this here at El Camino. The GOTO Chronos projector inside, installed in 2005, provides Astronomy students with a unique and immersive learning environment. Planetarium shows are occasionally held here as well, which means you don't have to drive all the way to Griffith to experience it!

Thanks to the generosity and vision of the late John Drescher, Santa Monica College is the home to a computerized planetarium theater. At its heart is the Evans & Sutherland Digistar II planetarium projector, which was the first of its kind on the West Coast. Using digital technology, audiences can fly beyond the solar system and soar among the stars. We can transport you across our galaxy to the limits of spacetime.
January 27's telescope observing event on campus was a success and we would like to thank all those who attended and helped make it a memorable evening, including the faculty and members of the SMC Astronomy Club who helped out - not to mention multiple audience members who offered help with putting equipment away.
We intend to follow up with more similar events but will probably schedule them for Saturday evenings rathe than Fridays. Watch this space for developments.
NOTE: The 8 p.m. Feature program on July 7 has been postponed to a later date TBD.
Invitation links to the live online events are generally posted the Thursday before. These programs are only available LIVE on Friday evenings, and on the occasional Matinee dates, normally Sundays. Clicking on the Zoom links at other times will not work.

We also look forward to the expanded capabilities of the new planetarium SMC is building for opening in Fall 2024.
The Night Sky programs will last roughly 30 - 40 minutes, followed by a short question and answer period where guests can type questions into a chat box and we will answer as many questions as possible. There will be a short intermission at approximately 7:50 p.m. prior to the start of the Feature program at 8 p.m.
Sunday afternoon matinees feature a condensed presentation combining elements of the previous Friday night's programming.
Note that all 8 p.m. feature programs are preceded by the 7 p.m. “Night Sky” program described above.
Currently all presentations are online ONLY, with the exception of occasional observing programs.
June 30: A Short History of Rocketry - Part One Postponed to a later date TBD
July 7: The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Postponed to a later date TBD

Marie Velde: We've been going for years. Jim is an extraordinary lecturer: he used to work at the Griffith Observatory. His enthusiasm is contagious and he is very good with children also. The best time to go is when there is a telescope viewing after the indoor lecture, usually once a month. Parking is free on Fridays after 5 pm.

Mike Brody: This is as high of a rating as I can give for a near death experience that lended itself to pure joy. Never thought I’d make it to space, much less andromeda, but Alec’s steady hands navigated us throughout the galaxy and back.
Campbell Peddle: Commander Lorraine took me on an amazing journey that touched both my heart and some other places that hadn't been touched in a long time. Fun for the whole family!
Brie Walker: this planetarium takes you on an emotional rollercoaster as you explore not only space, but Captain Loraine himself. I highly recommend staying for the Q and A portion. thank you, captain.
Chase Nelson: Amazing experience start to finish. I was expecting a quick tour with some Q & A at the end but boy was I wrong. I don’t want to give anything away because you have to experience it yourself to fully appreciate it. Highly recommend.
Max McNally: Story, cast, editing, art, direction, music - every part of this planetarium show is excellently conceived.
Will Neild: When I first arrived, I thought it was kind of sketchy - this guy inviting me into his basement, promising me the stars? Well let me tell you this: he delivered. From the moment I entered, it was like stepping into a movie scene. These 5 stars don't do justice to the stars you will experience on Alec's breathtaking tour through space. This show changed my perspective on life.

Kelsey Farrer: Alec's Planetarium is really a special experience. As a huge fan of the Planetarium at Griffith Observatory, I wasn't sure if it would meet my expectations. But it was everything and more. The doses of comedy that Alec inserts into the show really give it that extra piece that's missing from other planetarium shows. He is absolutely hilarious, yet still extremely knowledgable. I would highly suggest visiting if you're looking for something fun & different in Santa Monica.

Garrett Rogers: I had an amazing time at Griffith Observatory! Its appearance in "La La Land" added to the excitement. Despite the bustling crowds, the experience was incredibly fascinating. The observatory itself was filled with intriguing exhibits, and the view from there was absolutely stunning. The blend of education, entertainment, and a breathtaking panorama made it a truly awesome visit.

Matt Fritz: had a great time checking out in Griffith Observatory however, I was unimpressed with the parking situation how they directed us halfway down the mountain, then noticed on our half mile walk up the mountain that they were letting cars park right in front of the observatory. That would’ve saved myself and three under five-year-old children quite the hike. However, I recommend seeing it for the sites especially if you’re on vacation.

Cristhian Villanueva Ninco: The best view of the city and the metropolitan area, the best time to go: at any time, I recommend after 5pm for sunset. The sunsets are like a movie, there are museums, there are free observatory areas in the city, the photos are very cool. Transportation is varied from buses to UBER. highly recommended. inevitable in the visit to LA.
Gary Bowie: very beautiful, beautiful view of los angeles! tried to find out if there are no events because you won't be able to drive up to the observatory or to the hollywood poster put on by hicking! 3.6 miles is a long way and it climbs a lot! at dusk it is very beautiful but plan a lot of time and a lot of traffic especially at the exit if the dusk arrives
