4worldlovers: We welcome community members who are referred by the courts to volunteer with local nonprofit organizations as an alternative sentence. An example of Empathy in Action, the Court Referral Community Service (CRCS) program is an opportunity for participants to reflect on their impact in the lives of others. The program aims to provide experiences that can transform lives as community members build greater empathy and learn where care is needed in the community. The Hospital and Morgue Program (HAM) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Victim Impact Panels are associated programs credited with changing behavior through the power of their message.

Our team works closely with CRCS participants to ensure the completion of service requirements while maintaining employment, education, and family commitments. We interview participants to determine the best fit between volunteers and the nonprofit agency, taking schedule and location into account.

To start, participants must bring these items to one of our offices along with a payment matching the number of hours to be completed.

In sentencing for DUI and reckless driving offenses, courts often require participation in the HAM program as an alternative sentence or condition of probation. The program guides community members through a powerful reminder of human consequences, and the gift of evidence-based tools to change risky behavior.

The MADD VIP program is a powerful example of touching hearts and opening minds, as it connects reckless driving and DUI community service participants with the true human impact of impaired driving. In VIP program classes, victims and survivors of impaired driving accidents share the impact on their lives and the pain of losing loved ones.
