This park was Long Beach Water Department well and recharges lands purchased in 1931. Stearns Park was named after Able Stearns, who along with Don Juan Temple, bought Rancho Los Alamitos in the 1830s, land that is now east Long Beach. Parts of the site were leased in 1954 to the Association for Retarded Children and developed with the Fire Training Center. A development plan approved by City Council on June 21, 1955 included a baseball diamond, two basketball and two tennis courts and a playground. A second youth baseball diamond and a tee ball diamond were added in 2008. A community center was added in 1976. Baseball field lighting a soccer field were added in 1997 with Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992 funds. The park fence bordering the Fire Training Center and Tucker School was replaced in 2003 with State Parks Bond Act of 2000 funds. In 2007, the freestanding restroom was replaced with a new restroom. The park name was changed from Stearns to Stearns Champions in honor of the Little League Baseball World and National Championships teams of 1992 and 1993 respectively, which had home fields at the park.

Edy Rod: Cool lil park for the lil ones
Franklin Perkins: Simple park but plenty of space for sports and is clean. Also has restrooms.
Bette Hackett: A nice park and usually not crowded. We have had many family picnics there over the years!
Adam Anderson: Great park for the whole family. Bathrooms are a little gross and there's not enough parking, but tons of space to run around, decent playground with good ball fields, tennis and basketball courts.
Rae Rowley: It was nice. Clean and lots of space for a party. Restrooms were decent as well.

Tom Bowman: Concerts in the park. Great to see all the people enjoying themselves. A real sense of community.
Stanley Hayes: Restrooms: The restrooms were clean.Picnic area: That was a gentleman. Coming around and cleaning the trash cans very Often were so grateful. We offered him food and drinks. And he did it with a smile.
Shagun Mohan: Great park. They have pickleball courts for 5$ per person on Friday’s 5-8pm.
George W Bush Center for Intelligence: Baseball season is here for little league . Come support youth sports buy a hamburger have a Mr pibb .the money goes back into the youth baseball league .

Brain Bananas: We haven't been here in a while. This is a beautiful park overall. Great for family activities such as parties, fishing, biking, hiking etc. Lots of parking on main loop. The only disappointment was the duck lake grass was full of animal litter... probably duck liter.... Anywhere we walked on the grass there was poop. There is an entrance fee, which I believe was $8. Not much, but shouldn't public park entrances be free?
AquaticIdealist: A very nice sports area. Actually free compared to the Eastern portion and the Nature Center. Be a bit aware of your surroundings in the southern sections though.The Disc Golf area is especially novel and wildly used, while the tennis center seems livelyDog-friendliness: Lots of dogs around with no issues

Joseph urquieta: Great place to take the kids and ride the bike or the scooter. Plenty of shade nice area and very open. Restrooms are very clean. They have basketball courts where you can go ball, they also have tennis courts. Nice playground to take the kids to play around. If you are waiting for any one at the airport great spot to just relax and wait for them at a beautiful park in Long Beach.Restrooms: Very clean inside the big buildingPicnic area: Plenty of places to plan a picnic in the shade.
David Chung: Clean and well kept park. Parking wasn't super easy on a busy Saturday, but was still possible. We attended an event in the meeting room, which was also clean and well kept, although on the older side. The facilities were good.Playground: Full playground equipmentRestrooms: Clean
