4worldlovers: The Center for Law and Military Policy is a nonprofit think tank dedicated to strengthening the legal protections of those who serve our nation in uniform.

Led by Dr. Dwight Stirling, a law professor and reserve JAG officer, the CLMP seeks to change policies that harm everyday service members. As the co-founder and former CEO of Veterans Legal Institute, Dr. Stirling has seen first-hand just how vulnerable military personnel are, particularly the rank and file who enlist directly out of high school. Yet while these brave men and women risk their lives keeping America free, their own rights are often ignored or even discarded altogether. This is not right. Serving in uniform should not make a person a second-class citizen.

The Center for Law and Military Policy conducts research and produces educational material in order to strengthen the legal protections of service members and veterans. Our work helps to close the civil-military gap, the civilian population’s limited understanding of military life and culture. Less than 1% of the country are in the military in any form. The growing divide between the two communities, civilian and military, is harmful and inconsistent with America's founding values. Through rigorous scholarship and timely educational programs, the CLMP seeks to bridge the gap between service member and civilian, deepening understanding, appreciation, and consideration on both sides.

Empowering Victims of Military Sexual Assault (MST) - One of the CLMP's primary initiatives is to increase the legal rights of MST survivors. As widely reported, rape and other forms of assault against male and female service members occur at an alarming rate within the military. Statistics show, for instance, that nearly half of all women are assaulted in one form or fashion during their time in uniform. Yet MST victims are unable to sue their assailants in a court of law. Prevailing judicial policy prohibits any civil suit pertaining to harm that occurs "incident to service," a policy known as the Feres Doctrine. The result is that the only category of Americans who have no standing to sue when sexually assaulted are those who serve in the military. Such a policy is unconscionable and represents a stain on our national conscience. The rules should be modified to allow MST survivors to hold their assailants accountable in a court of law.

American Legion Albert E. Schwab Post 555 is located in beautiful Midway City, in the heart of Orange County, California. Our Post family includes Legionnaires, Auxiliary Unit 555, Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron, and American Legion Riders (ALR) Chapter 555.


Post 555 is also home to our extended family: Cub Scout Troop 4, 40/8 Orange Voiture 527, Marine Corps League MCAS El Toro Detachment #17, Pacific Coast Harley Owners Group, and The Corvette Club of Southern California.

American Legion Post 555 was chartered in 1938. Later that year, the Auxiliary Unit 555 was also chartered. The American Legion Riders Chapter 555 was formed and chartered in 2007, and finally the SAL Squadron formed in 2011.

Our Post building was purchased from Standard Oil of Huntington Beach in 1938 for $500. In 1946 the building was relocated to its current location on Beach Blvd.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

Veterans helping Veterans has been our motto and is what is displayed proudly on our roof.

At American Legion Post 555 we are working to renovate and rebuild our Post into a place where veterans and family can feel at home. We are working together with the legion family to create and build a welcoming environment where veterans and family can do activities, stop in for a meal, network, seek refuge, relax, volunteer, and participate.

Private First Class Albert E. Schwab, USMCR, (1920-1945) Albert Ernest Schwab was born on July 17, 1920 in Washington D.C. He later relocated with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Graduating from Tulsa High School, he briefly attended Tulsa University and then worked for an oil company. In May 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for World War II service. After completing recruit training at San Diego, California, he reported to the Second Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California and eventually transferred to the Thirteenth Replacement Draft. In November he departed for combat duty in the Pacific on board USS Wharton. Arriving at Pavuvu Island, Russell Islands, Schwab joined the First Marine Division and was assigned to Headquarters Company, First Battalion, Fifth Marines. That December, Schwab was promoted to Private First Class.
