4worldlovers: The Long Beach Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) currently provides primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment for a design capacity of 25 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD), and serves a population of approximately 250,000 people.

Approximately 6 MGD of recycled water is used at over 60 different sites. Reuses include landscape irrigation of schools, golf courses, parks, and greenbelts by the City of Long Beach, the re-pressurization of oil-bearing strata off the coast of Long Beach, and the replenishment of the Central Basin groundwater supply from water processed at the Leo J. Vander Lans Advanced Water Treatment Facility. The remainder is discharged to Coyote Creek.

The advanced water treatment facility uses microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet disinfection to produce near distilled quality water, and is blended with imported water and pumped into the Alamitos Seawater Barrier to protect the groundwater basin from seawater intrusion.
