A CASA makes all the difference in the life of a child in foster care

CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties is a voice for abused and neglected children in our community who have been placed in foster care. These children are currently facing loneliness, health issues, a lack of stability, and a great risk of falling behind educationally and developmentally. As adults they are at greater risk of homelessness, substance abuse, imprisonment and more. Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a permanent, loving home, be connected with supportive services while in the foster care system, perform better academically, and form a stronger sense of acceptance, positivity, and achievement.

It is hard to imagine that hope can exist in a world where children are being abused, neglected and abandoned. But hope does exist and it comes in the form of our Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

A CASA is an Officer of the Court that Represents a Child’s Best Interest

Appointed by a judge to speak up for children in court and other settings.

Review documents and records, interview the children and family, and provide written reports at court hearings.

Help the child understand court proceedings and advocate for the best interests of the child.

Ensure a child receives appropriate services and advocate for those that are not immediately available. CASAs address concerns about a child’s health, education, mental health, and any other needs to the appropriate professionals.

Check to see plans are being followed and mandated review hearings are being held.

Update the court on agencies and family members. Ensure motions are filed on behalf of the child so the court knows about any changes in the child’s situation.

With over 50 years of combined experience and knowledge in the child welfare field, our daily goal is to ensure every child and foster family is supported and has the tools they need to be successful.

At Kids Kasa, we do this by forming a support team around the child and foster family consisting of social workers and other support staff who have decades of experience working with children in difficult circumstances, to give the parents and children the professional assistance and guidance to help the whole family thrive.
