4worldlovers: It is with tears of sadness and joy that we send you this letter. For 50 years BDS has been a fixture in the Central Valley of California, in SCUBA education, equipment sales, and dive travel business.


However, our relationship with you is about to change! Mary and Ed have decided to hang up their fins and RETIRE BDS as a brick-and-mortar operation. This will allow us to focus on our dive travel business model.

After 50+ years of serving as your chosen dive center, we will cease brick-and-mortar operations no later than June 30, 2022.

We are looking forward to the next phase of our lives together with The BDS “Sub Club” traveling and most of all enjoying family. Many of you will remember our granddaughter Bella Mia’s first dive trip to Curacao with the “Sub Club”. Well, in a blink of the eye, she turned 16 this year! We anticipate trips and diving with all the grandkids: Sienna, Caden, and Campbell, and of course our kids Chris, Cassie, Heather, and Kelly. Without these guys Bob’s Dive Shop would be a very different place!

Since 1972, BDS has had the privilege of serving you and doing the best job we knew how, training divers as safely as possible. In that time, we have been honored to call many of you “friend” as well as greatly appreciated clients of BDS.

Bob’s Dive Shop is the oldest Pro Dive Shop in California with original ownership, maybe even the oldest on the whole of the West Coast. Fifty plus years in any business is considered a success; Fifty plus years in the diving industry is at least that!

The story and history of BDS is unique in the world of business and stands alone in the diving world. After Bob died in 1983, Mary made the commitment to carry on “their” dream in spite of some very large hurdles and limitations. There are MANY, MANY to thank along the way… FAR, FAR too many to list.

Suffice it to say you are all remembered and we owe you a great debt of gratitude!
