Pomona Valley Genealogical Society will be presenting a Zoom meeting on Saturday, March 11th at 2:00pm. Len Enlow will be telling us about the Orphan Train Movement that took place between 1854 and 1929.
The Orphan Train Movement was a supervised welfare program that transported children from crowded Eastern cities of US to foster homes located largely in rural areas of the Midwest.
There were an estimated 30,000 children that left N.Y. City alone in the 1850’s by trains to the Midwest and a number ended up being used for farm labor.
