From Sex Ed Squad, I’ve learned how to manage stress, that my feelings matter, I am beautiful exactly how I am, and it is important to share our knowledge about safe sex to our peers. Squad gave me a community I could depend on and they welcomed everyone with open arms, ears, and minds.

I've been going to the Daly City Youth Health Center for years and I have always had really awesome and friendly service while there! Everyone, from the person you schedule your appointments with to the nurse practitioners, is kind and they have always made me feel comfortable. I greatly appreciate what they do to serve the local youth community.

I am able to go into a medical facility and feel confident enough to say my piece, as well as making my own medical appointments. This confidence has also carried over into school and I feel comfortable enough to ask teachers for more help or talk to faculty about my needs as a student.

In my life it's been easy to see my mistakes rather than my accomplishments, but I can now say the amazing progress I've made since I first stepped into the clinic. They've helped me through the toughest points in my life, never giving up on me.

4worldlovers: Samoan Community Development Center (SCDC) was founded in 1991 in San Francisco, CA as a 501c 3. SCDC was originally developed to fill the needs for the Samoan community and Pacific Islanders alike, who migrated to the United States. In time, the needs in our Pacific Islander became greater, calling for more services. SCDC is the only funded organization in San Francisco that serves Samoans and other Pacific Islanders.

The San Francisco Bay Area has a population of 82,576 Native and SCDC serves 1,500 of these NHPI’s annually. SCDC is also based geographically where a high population of NHPI’s reside; however we offer services to NHPIs from across the Bay Area. Over the past 25 years, SCDC has built programs for youth K through College, families, case management, summer cultural programs, mental health promotion, breast cancer education and awareness, and re-entry.

4worldlovers: Established in 1997, Inner City Youth was founded by Navy Veteran, Michael "Mike" Brown, to serve local teenagers and transitional youth, ages 17 and 24. To help his children thrive academically, Mr. Brown arranged tutoring sessions at the family home on Minerva Street. This quickly drew attention from students and residents in the OMI and thus nonprofit was created.

Growing to meet the evolving needs of the community, today ICY offers skills-based training including: web design, music/sound recording, culinary arts. In 2002 Mr. Brown's daughter, Gwendolyn Brown, graduate of Mills College, returned to ICY to contribute creative writing skills to Studio 96, a student run music studio. Today, Ms. Brown continues her father's legacy as Director.
