When you hit a clog, run the machine backwards. Ease the cable back a few feet and then forward again until you feel resistance. Station someone in the house to make sure the snake didn’t go the wrong way and isn’t banging on the toilet. Move it back and forth until the clog has cleared. Pull the cable out of the pipe and make sure the drains are running well, flushing the toilet multiple times.
