Seldom has the impact of an artist been so immediate as that of Wai Ming on his arrival in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. His artistic sensitivity is combined with a startling realism that has caught the attention of the public. His four paintings that he displayed at Swanson Art Gallery in San Francisco for the first time in 1975 were all sold within the first day. Not only has the demand for his work grown steadily, but he is acknowledged by many as one of the Bay Area's leading artist.

Arcana features paintings, prints, and floral design by artists Amandalynn, Lady Mags, Gloria Muriel, Erin Yoshi, Megan Shaffer, and Nine Swords Design. Arcana, by definition, refers to a deep secret, a mystery, or an elixir. With this exhibition, Amandalynn invites some of her favorite artists to discover and celebrate the hidden magic brought to light by working together. The show also features two mural / painting installations — by Amandalynn and Lady Mags — which evoke a sense of discovery and found treasure.

Amandalynn is a Bay Area-based muralist, fine artist, conservator, and art director. Inspired by the female form and spirit, she depicts strong, seductive women and illustrates their strength through line work and decorative patterning. Her work can be found in galleries and streets all over the world. She began developing her distinct street art style mural work in 2001, painting alongside infamous graffiti collective The Seventh Letter. She believes that sharing the creative process with others is the key to an inspired life. Amandalynn has a Bachelor's of Fine Art from the San Francisco Academy of Art.

Lady Mags began her art career as a graffiti writer in 2006, when she started painting tracksides in Chicago while pursuing a degree in education. She has travelled throughout the world, painting street art and large scale murals in many of her destinations. She began exhibiting her fine art in galleries while also practicing her PhD in International Comparative Education at Stanford University. She currently resides in Petaluma CA.

Gloria Muriel is a San Diego-based artist and muralist whose work celebrates the inspiration of divine feminism with a surreal, whimsical, and psychedelic connection to Mother Earth and the four elements. She is influenced by her inner child and guided by the beauty of innocence and wonder. Raised in Baja, California, she has a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad Iberoamericana in Tijuana.

Erin Yoshi is a community instigator, harnessing her creative power to tell compelling stories and spread messages of hope. With a practice deeply rooted in historic cultural memories and current global conditions, her visual art utilizes abstract and figurative color vibrations to uplift culture and ecology. She has over 20+ years experience in building collaborative public art activations, murals, cultural gatherings, festivals, museum exhibitions, arts curation and creative curriculums. She is a renowned muralist, having painted over 100 around the globe. Yoshi is a Founding Director of Lunarsol Studios, an artist-led creative agency and is also on the design team for the Great Wall of Los Angeles, a 4-year endeavor to expand the national monument’s depiction of people’s contemporary history and struggles.
