4worldlovers: This was the first place I ever tried sushi (back in elementary school). I remember coming here on weekends with my dad, and thinking the items were too pretty not to try! To this day, I still visit and enjoy their food.

There is almost always a line, but it moves fast. Service is good and the location is great (off the freeway and right near the South Coast Plaza shopping center). It’s always a treat to eat here!

Everybody who has introduced me to Kaiten Sushi Bar always gives me this disclosure, “It’s a rotating sushi bar type restaurant but with that being said, it’s still pretty good.” So there you go, there’s your disclosure and be ready to be amazed.

First of all, how does rotating sushi work? When you sit down, you can grab a pen and the list of sushi. Put down your seat number (it should be right in front of you) at the top of the list and pick your selections of what you want (if you want it extra fresh or if the item you want is not on the rotating belt). Or you can make your selections from the belt and pick whatever you want. The pricing depends on what plate the food is on. The wall will show you each pricing and it ranges from 0.99-$6.00 I believe. Keep your eyes out for the chalkboard specials because they have daily specials that are stealer prices!

I love the rotating type of sushi restaurants because I enjoy seeing my food before I make the final decision and I also like how they consist of smaller portions/small bites – so you don’t have to order an entire roll. I’ve been to a few other different rotating type sushi places but nothing compares to Kaiten. The quality, price, selections, and customer service brings me back every single time.

Great conveyor belt sushi place with reasonable prices, especially if you order off the specials written up on the wall. I really liked that you have the option of ordering in case something that you want is not coming around. Also if you do place an order, it comes by very quickly. My only complaint would be that it is a but small so it can get pretty crowded.

This place gets pretty crowded at dinner time and parking can be difficult even though there’s plenty of spaces. I had to park near the Wells Fargo if you’re familiar with the area.

The food is affordable for the type of fish you can get. They have otoro, fatty tuna, monkfish, uní, halibut, etc. The quality of the fish was good for the price. Some pieces were not extremely fresh, but still decent quality.

The service is a little lacking, mainly because it’s revolving sushi so the waitstaff doesn’t come around too often.

I highly recommend the handroll specials. The day I went the spider handroll and salmon skill roll were discounted and very worth it!

If it’s your first time coming and you notice there is hella salmon sashimi don’t fret! There’s a paper menu and you can order from there. Just get the sheet and write down the number of how many orders you want of that item. Then fold it in half, long ways, and then put it inside a clear cup on the revolving belt. You’ll see the cup every 15-20 plates that pass. Also, Make sure to write your seat number on the top right of the sheet. Once you do the sushi chefs take it out and make your rolls/order. Then look for a white cup with your seat number on the belt and your sushi will be on top!

Kaiten is the best place to have quick and fast sushi and hand rolls. I honestly go here for the hand rolls. They have specials on it every day!! I usually get the salmon skin HR. It’s my fave! I tried the soft shell crab HR today and it was yummy! Only thing was that there was more avocado than actual crab.
