In the midst of what I hope is an extended Fourth of July weekend for many of you, I wanted to provide just a couple quick reminders in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year. I promise to leave you alone for at least a couple weeks after this: Athletic Clearance If you have a student interested in Fall sports, please make sure you get the paperwork and your online clearance completed as soon as possible. The athletics department will be closed from July 1-12th and will re-open on 7/13. The deadline for all paperwork is 7/25 . Any clearances that come in after that date are not guaranteed that they will be cleared in time for the first day of tryouts for any fall sport. I have attached the link HERE for your convenience. JULY/ AUGUST try-out dates: 2023-2024 Fall Try-out information Business Days Save the Date! We will host our annual Business Days the first weeks of August. This is a time where students come back to campus to take photos for student ID’s, purchase ASB cards, yearbooks, and PE clothes, and have an opportunity to meet with counselors regarding their tentative course schedules. Here is the schedule: Date Time Grade Wednesday, August 2nd 8:30 am - 11:00 12th Thursday, August 3rd 8:30 am - 11:00 11th Friday, August 4th 8:30 am - 11:00 10th Monday. August 7th 8:30 am - 11:00 9th NOTE: If students are not able to attend Business Days, they will be able to drop off paperwork and pick up their tentative class schedules the week before school starts. Counselors will not be available to meet in person due to professional development work during this week. Level changes and/or schedule corrections can be requested through a Google Form at that time, prior to school starting. Bike and E-Bike Permitting As I am sure you are all-too-aware, both Carlsbad and Encinitas have suffered tragic losses of life connected with e-bikes. Both cities are working with our school district to ensure that students riding to school have significant, meaningful training. We embrace this partnership, and agree that students need education and support to ensure their safety on these machines. We will be providing more information about trainings, and will also be recongizing students who have already attended educational sessions related to biking and e-biking as part of a bike permit and registration process this Fall. SDUHSD Community, Early this morning the administration at La Costa Canyon High School received a bomb threat on the main phone line at 9:57 am and immediately called 911 and locked down the campus. The Carlsbad Police Department (CPD) responded immediately and directly investigated the situation. After a thorough investigation and sweep of the LCC campus, the phone call was determined by CPD to be an unsubstantiated threat and lifted the lockdown at 10:56 am in collaboration with school and district staff. While it was determined that the campus remained a safe place for our students and staff, CPD maintained a visible presence on the LCC campus and in the surrounding area as the school resumed normal operations. I want to commend Principal Conn for his strong leadership this morning and throughout the day. I would also like to thank the Carlsbad Police Department for their swift response and investigation. The safety of our students and staff at all of our schools is always our top priority. We understand that this situation may affect each of us in different ways, and there are a variety of district support available for impacted staff and students.
