Serving Berkeley and the Bay Area, our preschool is dedicated to quality learning using the Montessori method – teaching everything from the most basic life skills to core subjects such as reading and writing in English and Chinese.

The Montessori program is based on the belief that children learn best through their own drive to learn about their world. Montessori methods provide the foundation for everything we teach at GMIS.

Each of our two programs —Young Children’s House and Children’s House — features a spacious, bright classroom. In keeping with the school’s Montessori teaching philosophy, all materials are easily accessible to the students to allow them to select the work that interests them the most.

At GMIS, we believe in the importance of developing the whole child. Our weekly enrichment classes add variety, excitement and breadth to each student’s week at GMIS, and include opportunities for children to discover and develop their interest in athletics and music.

Nia House is a non-profit Montessori School in the heart of West Berkeley. We are committed to providing children between the ages of 18 months and 6 years with an education centered around peace, understanding, acceptance, independence, community, and truth.

Our mission is to bring together children from different socio-economic backgrounds to grow and work in harmony and cooperation, and to actively work toward all of Dr. Maria Montessori's concepts, especially that of peace through education.

Our youngest learners at Nia House are aged 18 months to 3 years. Our goal is to help children to become and remain: naturally independent, socially responsible, confident, physically capable, curious and motivated learners.

The Nia House primary serves children 3-6 years old and includes the traditional Montessori three year plan, building skills in Math, Art, Language, Culture, Botony, Zoology, Sensorial education, and Practical Life.

4worldlovers: Little Elephant Montessori Schools are small, safe, home-like schools set in the Rockridge and Berkeley neighborhoods of the East Bay. Each school has a large, sunny outdoor play yard and cozy classrooms. At our Rockridge location, we have two classrooms, our primary classroom with a capacity for 22 full-time students and two instructors. In our pre-primary classroom, we have the capacity for 11 full-time students with two instructors.

Little Elephant, too! is our Berkeley campus. Little Elephant, too! is a one-room schoolhouse with the capacity for 24 children and two instructors.
