When we opened Rick & Ann’s in November of 1989, we felt something was missing in Berkeley, a restaurant serving the dishes we relished in our childhood.

Taking full advantage of the freshness, variety of ingredients, and cooking talents that the Bay Area has to offer, we’ve created breakfast, lunch and dinner menus of simple, comforting foods with universal appeal.

We have dine-in, sit down service for breakfast and lunch available 5 days a week Thursday through Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The restaurant will be closed for sit-down service on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is a To Go menu available on those days. Please see the Menu page for details.

The Market is available and fully stocked daily. There is no dine-in service for dinner.

4worldlovers: After having spent more than a decade in Copenhagen, Denmark, Chef Nichole Accettola has created her own gathering place for good Scandinavian food in San Francisco: Kantine, the Danish word for canteen - a place were friends and co-workers gather to share a hearty lunch and enjoy each other’s company.

We make Scandinavian-inspired food from seasonal, organic and sustainable ingredients. And whenever possible, we make it from scratch, so we know what's in it.

We change our menu daily, but below is a sample menu so you can get a sense of what we offer - on top of all the fresh breads, buns, and pastries that we produce every day.

Sidewalk tables available as well as inside. Busy place and food arrived quickly.very tasty.

This was such a good find for us. The atmosphere is delightful and the food is terrific. The cardamom bun was perfectly cardamomy for me, but not quite enough for my wife (though she did really like it anyway). The coffee was good, but the roll dipped in the coffee was amazing. I also had the sweet 3-grain oatmeal which was truly excellent. Vegetarian options: Kind of limited for vegans, but vegetarians will find a lot to love.

Kantin is a prime spot for breakfast in SF. You're in for superior coffee, authentic Danish pastries, and great staff. The interiors are inviting and tastefully done. My Danish colleagues raved about its authenticity, home feeling and food.

Quick service and delicious food. I was really pleasantly surprised by my kale and barley salad. The dressing was so good! Some of the sandwiches are kind of small though for the price. You order first and then seat yourself, so it can sometimes take a while on a crowded morning but it’s kind of random, sometimes there’s plenty of seating. Good indoor/outdoor options. They got rid of their boards which is definitely a huge devastation per my sister lol. But still not a deterrent from going there!

The trout bowl is so delicious. All ingredients are very fresh and it feels like a unique experience to eat here. It was very full on the weekend, but on the weekdays it’s very quiet.

Never had Scandinavian food before and was absolutely blown away. So many new, interesting, delicious flavors at a very reasonable price point. I’ll be dreaming about this and will definitely have to come back the next time I’m in SF.

Best breakfast place in SF! Delicious food. Amazing spot for local community (10% off for neighbors). Constantly refreshing menu. Amazing staff. Hones owners. Even Scandinavians visitors are impressed how great this place is. Truly the gem of SF.

Enjoyed their brunch. There was a 20 min line at about noon on a Saturday. I like that you can build a brunch plate with 5-7 options - great way to try a lot of stuff. Their iced coffee is so expensive for just an 8oz serving. After I ordered it and saw it come out, I bought another immediately (for a grand total of $11 for one typical serving).
