The Bakersfield Birth Center was designed to do just that.

The Midwives Model of Care was created by the Midwifery Taskforce Inc., in 1996 as a collaborative effort between the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC) and Citizens for Midwifery (CfM). It was inspired as a response to the fact that most mainstream medical doctors had no idea what midwifery care really meant, and – therefore – felt it was an unsafe practice. As a result, the Midwifery Taskforce Inc., created a universal definition of what it means to provide – and receive – The Midwives Model of Care.

If you need emergency contraception (AKA the morning after pill), you can walk in anytime we’re open.

You are welcome to walk in any time the Health Center is open to make an appointment or see if there is a same day appointment available. If you have the time to wait, we will make every effort to fit you in the same day. If we can’t see you, we will give you the first priority appointment available.

PPMM Health Centers accept walk-in patients, however it is on a first come, first serve basis, and there is no guarantee you will be seen until you arrive at the Health Center. Scheduling appointments is recommended to ensure you will be seen for the service you need.
